Vroom Vroom: Car Rider Line

Good news...our drop-off and pick-up processes have gotten so much quicker! It is amazing how quickly these little ones and we all start settling into a groove! If your child is not a bus rider, please use the car-rider line. We have had an increasing number of people parking at the community center and walking children to the building. I am asking that since we have all gotten used to the school routine, we now use the car-rider line only. If you have business at the office, please drop your child off in the car-rider line, then you can pull around to park and address any needs you may have. These steps and your help in following procedures really do work to create a smooth process and increase our safety and efficiency.

Thank you,

Attendance Counts

Did you know that according to the State of Indiana a parent/guardian with a child in grades K-4 is legally responsible to ensure that his/her child receives a proper education? Studies show that most parents/guardians are a little foggy on what constitutes good attendance.

Great: 0-3 days of school missed the entire year.
Good: 4-5 days of school missed the entire year.
Needs Improvement: 6-7 missed days of school the entire year.
Poor attendance: 9 or more missed days of school the entire year.

This means that, according to the Indiana Department of Education, once your child has hit ten missed days of school (excused or unexcused), your child is flagged as being habitually truant. At this time, the parent/guardian is subjected to several interventions. Some of these include, but are not limited to (1) random home visits throughout the school day to check on your child's well being, (2) a child well fare check by the Beech Grove Police Department, and/or (3) being reported habitually truant from school to the Department of Child Services.

We here at Hornet Park are committed to providing our students with the best possible education. We are here, ready and willing to work with you to ensure your child here and ready to succeed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Colleen Borgert.

Things to Remember

  • It is important that your child have a change of clothes in his/her cubby. Please send an extra change of clothes in your child's book bag.

  • Please work with your child on tying his/her shoes.

  • All lost and found items will be donated at the end of each of the nine weeks! If you think your child has an item in the lost and found, please visit the front office. We will be happy to let you browse through lost and found items!

  • Please, send in a change of clothes and shoes to keep in your child's classroom. These are very important to have on hand in case of accidents or spills, which occur regularly at Hornet Park. If a change of clothes is here, it will save family or friends a trip to bring in needed items.

TAP

"The System for Teacher and Student Assessment," otherwise known as "TAP," has made a positive impact on Beech Grove City Schools. This program guides instruction, challenges teachers, and demands excellence of all students and staff members. Through this framework, our teachers participate in weekly professional development meetings, otherwise known as "TAP Tuesday," designates weekly classroom walk-thrus, and requires four formal observations per year for each teacher (two announced and two unannounced). We set goals, study Hornet Park student data, and make educational decisions to best benefit our youngest learners.

Hornet Park is making exceptional strides. We are happy to announce that we have received a 5 out of 5 score for a second year in a row, demonstrating excellence in closing the achievement gap and allowing our students to grow academically. This feat alone has put Hornet Park on the map nationally! Congratulations Hornet Park students, staff, and parents! Look for more TAP news to come!
