A Peek at Next Week

Writing - Writers will be writing their feelings about STAAR down this week, along with a very special writing assignment that will be kept under wraps for now.

Reading - As we begin our last week of STAAR Prep, we will focus this week on inferencing, drawing conclusions, fact and opinion, and using graphic features to answer questions. I will give students as much time as they need to discuss STAAR with me, asking questions, talking about it, and making sure they are as comfortable as they can be.

Math - This week, we will finish our financial literacy lessons, work on individual student math goals, review measurement, and practice knowing how to check our bubbles on answer documents. We will be using several PowerPoint presentations to help review all TEKS.

Science - Scientists will begin reviewing natural resources and learning about different ecosystems our world offers. They will be learning about populations and communities within those ecosystems. They will chose one ecosystem to focus on and make a poster.

Social Studies - We will finish our lessons on our economy, which tie in nicely with financial literacy in math.

Upcoming STAAR Tests

As you know, 3rd graders will be taking the STAAR test very soon.

Monday, May 9th - Math STAAR

Tuesday, May 10th - Reading STAAR

There are a few things you can do to help prepare your child for STAAR:

  • Make sure they eat a healthy breakfast.
  • Make sure they get enough sleep - 10 hours is best.
  • Make sure they get to school on time.

No visitors are allowed in the building on STAAR testing days. 5th graders take STAAR Science on Wednesday, May 11th.

Everyone in my class is READY!!! We are reviewing and practicing skills every day. I can't wait for them to show all they have learned this year. I am SO PROUD of them!!
