Hello! Greetings From Gwin!
Please read the announcements shared below and feel free to contact us at 439-2600 if you have any questions or need clarification on the events and information shared in this edition of GES News.
Dear Gwin Families,
We hope that this message finds you well. Our teachers and staff sincerely miss our families. We want you to know that we are still here to love and support your children in many ways. I can imagine that you are adjusting to our normal for now which will soon include having our students at home participating in learning activities.
Please read the information below and feel free to reach out to us for clarification and assistance. Remember that this is new for us all. Take things one step at a time.
Teaching and Learning Brought Into Your Home
On Monday, April 6th we will launch on-line assignments. You should have been contacted by your child’s teacher so that we can determine how we can best meet the academic needs of your child using this distance learning model. Students who do not have online capability will have paper activities provided.
Assignments will be sent to you and/or your child using Google Classroom, SeeSaw, emailed lessons or other technology-based activities.
Teachers will communicate best ways to submit completed tasks.
Student effort toward mastery and completion will be assessed each week.
Additional assignments will be shared based on the teaching schedule established by classroom teachers.
Teachers in each grade level will collaborate to provide instruction through online platforms.
Teachers and other instructional staff members are available to families to support learning at home.
On Monday, April 6th we provide paper copies of assignments for students who may not have access to online resources. Teachers have provided a list of the students whose parents have requested this type of support. If you need paper copies and have not been in contact with your child’s teacher, please be sure to share that need with the teacher by Friday, April 3rd at 3pm.
Campus Pick-up on April 6th
Pick-up Assignment Schedule
Families may pick up paper assignments on Monday at the following times…
Students with last names beginning with letters A-L 9-11am
Students with last names beginning with letters M-Z 1-3
Assignment pick-up will be similar to our carpool process - we will use all 3 lanes as needed
Please do not get out of your cars for safety and social distancing reasons
A staff member will come to your car to ask your student’s name and class
It would be helpful if you could post the student’s name and teacher in the car window on a piece of paper
Another staff member will collect your student’s assignment packet and bring it to your car as you approach the front doors of the school
Cars will be directed to leave campus after picking up assignment packets
If you need to pick-up medication or drop off library books, you will be able to turn the corner and do so under the carpool awning
*remember that Patton Chapel Road is blocked due to road construction*
alternate routes may be found through the use of mapping phone apps
Please feel free to come and drop off library books on Monday, April 6th from 9-11am in our side parking lot under the carpool awning. If you are not also picking up paper assignments, you will need to park in the lot and drop off books. There will be a drop-off crate for collecting these books. Book return is not required at this time but is an option.
*parents who need to pick up medications have been contacted by our school nurses*
Our nurses will be at Gwin on Monday, April 6th from 9-11am for medication pick-up in our side parking lot under the carpool awning. If you are not also picking up paper assignments, you will need to park in the lot and pick up the medications. If you would like to pick up medications and have not been contacted by our nurses, please contact Nurse Teague at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, April 3rd at 3pm.
All of the contents from your child’s desk and other belongings left at school will be provided to you at a later date. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have essential items that you need immediately.

Digital Learning Support
Remember that Hoover City Schools will provide places around the city for students to connect to the internet if needed. Green Valley Elementary School and Riverchase Elementary School parking lots will be open for connecting to the internet. Buses will be parked in some apartment communities. The Willows is included in that service to families. See the guide for families listed below.
Please note that this process has changed due to school closure.
We will share more information soon about students zoned for Gwin will be eligible for kindergarten in the fall.
Field Trips, Picture Orders, and Calendar Events
With the closing of the school buildings and modifications to the instruction provided, there are several things that must be finalized. We are awaiting guidance on some of those decisions. Please continue to check email from Gwin to learn more about next steps in regards to “unfinished business”.
