Who Are We?

Greetings from the San Jose Student Services Department!

We hope that you enjoy the first issue of the Student Services Scoop Newsletter.

If you haven’t visited the Student Services office, you may be wondering what we actually do. Here’s a list to help you get to know us better:

  • We ensure that each SJP student is enrolled in the appropriate courses that lead to successful progression through middle school or to high school graduation.

  • We provide academic advising and graduation coaching on a continuous basis and assist students with the entire process of college application.

  • We collaborate with teachers to monitor attendance, academic progress, and other student needs.

  • We facilitate communication with parents and arrange for parent/teacher conferences.

  • We oversee the implementation of services and accommodations for special needs students and English Language Learners.

  • We provide targeted small group or individual intervention in reading and math.

  • We manage district, state and national assessments, which includes all Florida State Assessments (FSA), College Board Exams, and the ACT.

  • We provide in-school counseling and referrals to counseling outside the school, as appropriate.

  • We provide other information to parents and students throughout the school year on a variety of topics.

If you have questions, please contact us. Student Services exists to serve you! If we are unable to give you the assistance you need, we will find the person who can.

Congratulations to the 2021 graduating class! Best wishes as you embark on your next adventure. We are excited to report that every 2021 SJP graduate will transition into one of the following: 1. Full-time employment 2. United States Armed Services 3. University/State College/Vocational School. We eagerly anticipate hearing about your progress!

To all the SJP students who will return in August: have some fun this summer! Clear your head and try not to think about school for a while. When you get back, the SJP Student Services Department will be ready to help you start the new school year!

Federal Financial Aid

It is also time to request your FSA ID. You will need this to complete your FAFSA. CLICK HERE for directions. BOTH you and your parent must request a FSA ID prior to completing the FAFSA. FAFSA opens on October 1st for the 21-22 school year (the year you plan to attend college or other institution).

Florida Bright Futures

Information about eligibility requirements can be found at the Florida Bright Futures website. If you have questions about your status, see your School Counselor.

Institutional Financial Aid

Each college or university also has their own sources of financial aid. You need to check with each school individually to see if they have a financial aid application.

Scholarship Databases

There are several online scholarship databases that provide secure links to apply for private scholarships. We recommend that you use one (or many) of these to ensure that your private information is not stolen. Googling scholarships can lead you to scam or phishing sites that target students for identity theft.
