Red Ribbon Week is Coming!
From October 23-October 27 we will be participating in Red Ribbon Week!
Each day we will have a different theme for drug safety and awareness. Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Cantrell, will be focusing on recognizing poisons and recognition, as well as drug recognition and prevention during her monthly guidance lessons.
Please see the calendar above to be sure your child comes to school ready for each day!
Throughout the month, we will be collecting items to donate to support Family Haven. This is a shelter for women and children. Below is a list of items that this shelter is in need of. If you have donations, please send them in with your child!

Dismissal Reminders
1. Carpooling
In an ongoing effort to keep our students safe, we ask that if your student is to be going home with another student, that that student's parents also have a dismissal card for your child. If they do not have a dismissal card, please email the front desk and let them know who will be picking your child up. We must have written permission in order to let your student go home with another student. You can send these emails to rcondon@fultonscienceacademy.org and smelton@fultonscienceacademy.org
2. Monday & Friday Chess Club Dismissal
Elementary Chess Club students who have chess club on Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 are not required to go to carpool. These students should be picked up at 4:30 from the front lobby. Parents of these students, please have your dismissal cards ready when you come in to pick up your students at 4:30. This dismissal process for these students will alleviate stress from the parents as it will be easier to pick your child up.

A Peek at Next Week....
Homework Packets will be a review of last week's skills. A copy can be found under your child's Math course on FSA Connect!
Here's what's coming up next week in 2nd grade...
Reading: Identifying the theme of a fiction story. Students should be able to distinguish between the main idea and the theme of a story they have read. The main idea tells us what the story is mostly about while the theme tells us what lesson or message the story shares with us.
Phonics: Plurals! Do we add -s, -es, or change the y and add -ies? Back to our noun rules from a few weeks back.
ELA: We will combine our Social Studies unit with our Writing unit these next two weeks. Students will begin our Georgia State Symbols research writing! Each student will be assigned a different state symbol and given research materials to use this week. Throughout the week, students will research and create a fact sheet that they will use to write an informational paragraph about their specific state symbol.
Social Studies: Continuing our Georgia Regions and Rivers unit. Students have been completing a research guide about these regions and will be using the information to become an expert tour guide for one particular region.
Science: Continuing our Force & Motion unit. Students will spend the week engaged in hands-on activities and experiments to explore gravity.
Math:
Ms. P's Math: Test on Mental Math & Rounding (Oct. 17) and beginning our MULTIPLICATION unit! Practice those multiplication facts AT HOME!
Ms. Bentley's Math: Ch. 3 TEST on Tuesday (Oct. 17), Begin bar modeling with word problems
Ms. Minor's Math: Addition, Subtraction, Word Problems Test (Oct. 17) and beginning MULTIPLICATION strategies! Students should study multiplication facts at home!
Home Visit Program
Home visits are a casual way for your child to spend time with his/her teacher in the comfort of their home. Teachers enjoy having a chance to see children in this comfortable environment, doing whatever makes them most happy and spend time with children and their parents outside of a regular school day.
Simply email junal@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Ms. Unal will be in touch to confirm final details.
Please note: the best times to schedule a home visit are weekdays after 5:00pm.
