RICK MARCOTTE CENTRAL SCHOOL Principal Kathleen Kilbourne
Updates for Leadership at RMCS for the 2022- 23 School Year
June 28, 2022
Dear RMCS Families,
I hope you are having a great summer so far! As some of you may know, after careful consideration, current Rick Marcotte Central School Principal Kathleen Kilbourne has decided that she will not be returning to RMCS next school year. After I met with the leadership team yesterday afternoon, a Zoom meeting for staff to discuss next steps was held June 28 at 4 pm and I wanted to update you on our plan moving forward.
For the 2022-2023 school year, by a unanimous recommendation from the RMCS leadership team, I am pleased to announce that current High School Assistant Principal Lissa McDonald was chosen to serve as a one-year Interim Principal at Rick Marcotte. Lissa has accepted this new role subject to the completion of usual and customary contract details. We are also excited to welcome Stephanie Sumner to the role of Assistant Principal! Learn more about this team below.
Lissa McDonald has been working in the South Burlington School District for 17 years in the role of Assistant Principal at South Burlington High School. She was named Vermont Assistant Principal of the Year in 2012 and NASSP Distinguished Assistant Principal in 2013. Prior to joining the SBSD, Lissa worked as an English teacher at the middle and high school levels for 18 years and was a long-time cheerleading coach of state championship and nationally-ranked teams. Lissa currently serves as the chair of the VPA Cheerleading Committee and is responsible for state championship events. She holds a BS in Education with a minor in English from the University of Maine, Orono, a Masters of Education with a concentration in Curriculum Leadership from St. Michael’s College, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from the University of Vermont. When not serving the District as part of the administrative team, you can find Lissa enjoying time in Maine with her family, cycling on her Peloton and biking with her husband Joe “Coach Mac'' McDonald, a long-time SBHS educator and coach, or wielding power tools and tearing down structures for renovation or refurbishing. While she will greatly miss high school students and colleagues at the high school, Lissa is looking forward to getting to know the families and staff of RMCS!
Stephanie Sumner most recently served as co-principal and PreK-4 Instructional Leader for seven years at Charlotte Central School. Stephanie grew up on a dairy farm in West Haven, Vermont and had a truly rural Vermont K-8 educational experience in a two-room (sometimes 3) multi-age school. In this setting, she had early opportunities to be a teacher and a learner at the same time, which fueled her early passion for becoming an educator. Stephanie received her B.S in Elementary Education and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Vermont, an M.Ed. in Science Education through Vermont Science Initiative/Johnson State College and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from St. Michael’s College. Stephanie was a member of the 2020 cohort of the Vermont School Leadership Project, sponsored by the Snelling Center for Government. She shared that she is most inspired by engaging with students and educators as they make new connections, tackle new challenges and share their gifts with classmates and teachers!
Stephanie lives in Williston, Vermont with her husband Sandi, and their children Sadie (19) and Jack (15). Outside of work, Stephanie treasures spending time with family, traveling, kayaking, listening to live music whenever possible, reading and working on puzzles.
If you have any immediate questions, please feel free to reach out to me until Thursday, June 30. After which point, you can contact Interim Superintendent Violet Nichols at vnichols@sbschools.net.
Thanks,
David
