St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 7 | 10 September 2021
Message from Geordie
Afternoon all,
Here we are at the end of Week 8 and lots going on here at St Bernie’s. Our Year 1 class attended the State Library excursion this week and our top Cross-Country runners competed in the Interschool Carnival yesterday. This morning our Year 5 Blue class entertained us with their assembly, and I know that all our classes are busy getting their rooms ready for our Open Night in Week 10. This is a community building event designed to showcase some of the fun and engaging activities that our students have participated in this year and give parents the opportunity to wander through different classes. I will send out some more specific information closer to the day.
This week our School Advisory Council met, and our new Strategic Plan continues to be a priority, along with the review of the Uniform Policy. There is an update on this in the section below. One thing that I did not realise about our current policy is that it states that students can only wear the tracksuit pants in Winter. Living in Perth with a fairly warm climate (even in Winter) and as a short lover myself, I definitely believe that parents and students should have a choice in whether they wear the short or the pant - this will be amended during the review. In the meantime, please feel free to make this decision with your children.
Another hot topic at the Advisory Council and P&F Meetings this week was around our 1 to 1 iPad program and how this is managed going forward. If you were planning to purchase an iPad for school soon, please just hold off so that we can discuss our options as a Leadership Team. We will endeavour to make some decisions and get all the info out to parents’ early next term.
In some exciting news, I would like to announce that Jesseca Francis, our Year 6 Red teacher, will be off on new adventures as an Assistant Principal next year. Jesseca has helped Mel, Lisa and I as a new Leadership Team to St Bernie’s this year and I know she will make a difference at her new school, Holy Rosary in Derby. We wish her all the best and thank her for her contribution to our community.
Finally, as I said last week, I would really appreciate it if parents could discuss the final few weeks of school with their students. This time of the year is when students become tired and can make choices that they may not normally make. We had really nice, calm week this week and I am keen for this to continue until the end of term. I would also encourage parents of our Yr 3 -6 students in particular, to remind them that it is really important to talk to a teacher when they have a problem in the playground or in the classroom. When we know about an issue, we can help. When we find out 2 weeks later, it is much more difficult to intervene.
We are starting to get more of the beautiful Spring weather, so I hope you all enjoy the weekend!
Looking forward to another good week.

Stuff that we all need to know.......
Uniform Survey
Thank you to all of those who found time to complete our uniform survey. There was a large response and the committee has already met and spent time discussing the strengths and the concerns of our uniform. The committee is still in the review stage, however one aspect that we can share is that there will not be a winter and summer uniform, meaning students can wear shorts or tracksuit pants throughout the year to cater for the differing weather. The committee is meeting once again this term and then again in Term Four. We hope to share the reviewed policy with the community by mid Term Four, ready for a smooth start to 2022.
This week we have included the Code of Conduct Section 11
Please have a read of this in your own time.
