School Board Appreciation Month
January is designated as School Board Appreciation Month. Garland ISD’s Board of Trustees is responsible for more than 57,000 students and 7,200 employees. Trustees volunteer countless hours as advisors, decision-makers, problem solvers and supporters of the district and they receive no compensation for their work. Their actions and decisions affect the future of our district and ensure excellence in education. Choice of School and Magnet Applications
For students entering grades 1-12 in the fall, the choice period is: Jan. 3, 2022-Feb. 20, 2022. Only students who wish to change their campus, are new to GISD or entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades must make selections. Current students have the right to remain at their campuses. Virtual Parent University
We are continuing our Facebook Parent University series.
Join us on Tuesday, January 11th at 7:00 pm for our Things to do in 2022 Parent University. Videos with Spanish and Vietnamese captions of the FB Parent University will be posted after the event.

myON Winter Reading Contest
The Bundle up with Books contest is from December 13 – January 7. The students will have two ways to win! 1) Reading Response/Writing Activity 2) Reading over 300 minutes OUTSIDE of the school day. Visit the myON Winter Reading Contest site for more details.

Free Student Health Services Available
All Garland ISD students now have access to same-day doctor visits from school or from home through our partner Hazel Health. Sign up for this free virtual service today!
Student Nutrition Services
This school year, healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year. Each school/site or central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed upon request. For school menus and more detailed information please visit the School Meals website.
COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
In partnership with the Garland Health Department, we are offering free COVID-19 vaccines for adults and students ages 5 and up. Families can attend our event to get vaccinated or to get booster shots. Families, students and staff are welcome to attend. Clinics are first come, first served; no appointment is needed. These vaccines are voluntary, and no vaccines will be given without permission from the parent. For more information, visit our website.
COVID-19 Cases by Location
GISD is committed to transparency as we communicate during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to keep our families, staff and community informed, the COVID-19 Cases by Location webpage shows the number of lab-confirmed cases for staff and remote and face-to-face learners.

All community members are invited to find and post information about activities, events, camps and other educational programs around the tri-cities using this online, eco-friendly space.
