Diversity Club 2019
Diversity + Unity = Liberty
September-Vol 1 Issue 1
Diversity can be defined in so many ways! Diversity includes race/ethnicity, but is so much more and includes our individual differences in gender, sexual orientation, language, culture, religion, mental and physical ability, class, immigration status, and more. In our first year as a club and for years to come we hope to grow as community in our school and not only appreciate and accept the diversity of those around us, but set a chain reaction and teach others how to as well.
Our Purpose as a Club:
Our goal in diversity club is to introduce and educate ourselves on multiculturalism and the wide range of diversity which we will encounter in our school, community, nation, as well as the world. We strive to help educate one and another and bring everyone together to celebrate our differences. All who are interested and willing to be active club members are welcome here!
Membership dues and Upcoming Meetings
- This year, membership fees are waived, and the only "fees" to be had will include a shirt (which is optional) and fees for individual events which will happen throughout the year
- Our next meeting is September 13th, and at this meeting we will all take part in self audits to explore our diversity awareness. We will also break into committee groups and set goals for each individual committee.
National Hispanic Heritage Month:
How to Get Involved-
National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is September 15 to October 15, is about recognizing the contributions made and recognizing the importance of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture. There's so many ways to get involved this month including the Hispanic Festival, , Dia De Los Muertos, and Fiesta in Florissant (more information linked here https://www.hispanicfestivalstl.com/event) We also highly encourage watching the movie Cocoa, as it represents the hispanic culture in a beautiful way and also sheds light on Dia De Los Muertos. The Hispanic Heritage committee will be meeting soon so additional activities for this upcoming month are TBD.
