Reminder: Next Week is IAR Testing for Students in Grades 3&4

Dear families,

Next week, 3rd and 4th grade students will begin taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). This assessment measures student mastery of the Illinois Learning Standards in English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades 3 through 8. The district testing window is March 6 - April 21, 2023.

New Field will administer the test between: March 21 - March 28, 2023.

Children cannot study for a standardized assessment like they would for a regular classroom test, but there are ways you can help your student prepare to do their best:

  • Ensure your child attends school regularly so that they don’t miss out on important instruction

  • Speak with your child about testing so that they understand why doing their best is important

  • Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the assessment

  • Ensure your child arrives to school on time on the day of the assessment

  • Remind your child to take their time, listen to and read all directions, and tackle one question at a time

  • Help your child maintain a positive mindset by reminding them of their strengths and accomplishments

  • Review the Student Readiness Tools to gain familiarity with the testing experience. (https://download.pearsonaccessnext.com/il/il-srt.html)

We are committed to your child’s academic success. Please reach out to Resident Principal Neida Martinez with any questions about this assessment.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Neida Martinez

Crossing Guard Appreciation!

Crossing Guard Appreciation wraps up this week - please take a moment to thank our wonderful crossing guard, Ms. Sonny, who is stationed at the intersection of Clark & Morse. Ms. Sonny helps keep us safe and reinforced pedestrian safety for our children.

Parents, are you interested in becoming a crossing guard? Do you know someone who may be interested? CPS is hiring!

Here are some key highlights about this opportunity:

  1. The starting pay rate for a Crossing Guard is $15.46/hr and the positions are currently posted on the CPS website.

  2. Crossing Guards are eligible for CPS employee benefits.
