Mason Gazette
March 2, 2018
Dear Mason Families
March is reading month and we know the importance of making sure our learners are reading at least 15 minutes a night. Please help your child meet this requirement at home. If your child ever says they don't have any homework, feel free to let them know that reading for 15 minutes a night is also a necessity. Please click the link below to find out just how important reading really is to your child(ren)'s overall success!
Thanks for reading the Mason Gazette and have a wonderful weekend,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal

Dear Mason Families,
Welcome back! Hope you all had a wonderful week off.
As we come back to school, we wanted to send a couple reminders about entering our building.
- Every person who enters our building should be buzzed in at the front doors and report directly to the office to sign in and receive a visitors' badge.
- PLEASE DO NOT enter the building through the back playground doors with your children during morning admittance. We want to encourage independence in our students, as well as promote a safe and secure school environment for everyone.
- If you need to talk to someone in the office or a teacher, please come to the office or call/email to set up an appointment rather than entering with your children.
Have a wonderful week
Walking To School
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Whether your kids are walking to school, the park or a friend’s house, here are a few simple tips to make sure they get there safely.
The Hard Facts
Unintentional pedestrian injuries occur frequently in the United States and we want to make sure we are continuing to keep everyone safe at Mason. Please take the time to go over the tips below with your child(ren) this weekend.
Top Tips
- Teach kids at an early age to look left, right and left again before crossing the street. Then remind them to continue looking until safely across.
- Follow the directions of crossing guards when present. Don't enter the road until the crossing guard gives you the okay.
- Teach kids to put phones, headphones and devices down when crossing the street. It is particularly important to reinforce this message with teenagers.
- It’s always best to walk on sidewalks or paths and cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible.
- Children under 10 need to cross the street with an adult. Every child is different, but developmentally, most kids are unable to judge the speed and distance of oncoming cars until age 10.
- Be a good role model. Set a good example by putting your phone, headphones and devices down when walking around cars.
- Kids should exit the car on the passenger side of the car when at all possible.
