Litchfield Public Schools
Like many other school districts throughout the State, Litchfield faces continual challenges related to enrollment trends, changes in students’ learning styles, and keeping pace with needed repairs and physical facility improvements within our buildings.
In the spring of 2014, Litchfield Public Schools reduced our overall budget by over one million dollars. These cuts were made as a result of declining enrollment. Today we have a steady enrollment and even increasing slightly. Over the past few years the district has worked to continue to provide world class learning opportunities for our students and stay within our budget. Our current funding is one of the lowest in the area at $724 per pupil.
That said, the needs and challenges facing our district from operational and facilities perspectives continue to exist. We have no choice but to continue to explore efficient and cost effective ways to address these needs. Lake Ripley Elementary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary and some upgrades need to be made. Wagner Education Building, Middle School and High School buildings also need some additional facility adjustments including CTE (Career and Technical Education) classrooms as well as updated student bathrooms and multi use spaces. We are also openly discussing the possibility of a Community Wellness Center.
WE WANT YOUR INPUT!
Community input is very beneficial, and we would appreciate hearing your ideas, feedback, and perspectives on these topics. The district would like to invite students, staff, parents, and community members to attend “Community Listening” Sessions.
“Community Listening” Sessions
We will be having three “Community Listening” Sessions that will be held from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.
Tuesday, October 9 LHS Little Theater
Monday, October 15 Middle School and High School Conferences
Thursday, October 25 Middle School Media Center
The “Community Listening” Sessions will be in a casual environment, giving community members an open opportunity to share their perspectives regarding Litchfield Public Schools directly with members of the School Board and Administration.
We are truly looking forward to hearing from you and having you share your input on a variety of topics related to our district and our facilities.
