A Message From The Board of Directors
Ready or not, the school year is upon us! Although it’s not the same as New Year’s Day, it does mark the start of many new beginnings for students, teachers and staff, parents and the entire community. It’s the start of a new academic year. For the students, it’s a chance to start over with new teachers, school buildings, friends, sports seasons and extracurricular activities. A new school year is also a great time to have a fresh start with their grades. No matter what your grades were last year, this year is a clean slate for working hard, doing your best, and having your grades reflect your understanding and comprehension of the classes you are taking.
For those of us in the post-academic world, we can look at the start of the school year in the same light. Perhaps some of us are in a new job in a new building, with new co-workers and employers, and new job duties. Maybe this is all happening in a different town while living in a different house. These changes can be scary and overwhelming, but they can also be exciting and energizing.
For my wife and I, the scariness of a new beginning and feelings of being overwhelmed when we first moved here were very quickly alleviated. One thing we noticed when we moved to the area is how welcoming and accepting the people in this area are. Chisago Lakes instantly felt like home and it made our transition much easier. The abundance of lakes and trees make this area an idyllic setting for relaxation and recreation. The picturesque landscape makes visitors fall in love with the area immediately, and almost assuredly confirms a return visit.
People love how many opportunities there are for fun in the Chisago Lakes area. Ki Chi Saga Days starts on Thursday, August 15th and lasts until Sunday the 18th. There are many things to do at Ki Chi Saga including live entertainment, juggling, magic shows, Swedish dancers, garage sales, a huge craft and vendor fair as well as a fireworks show. It’s fun for the whole family and kids of all ages!
The Chisago City Farmer’s Market is still going strong every Friday from 2 to 6 at Vilhelm Moberg Park, and the Lindstrom Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday 3-6 & Saturday from 8 to 12 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church.
The Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is Thursday, August 22nd at the Chisago Lakes Golf Course. Even though all the teams have been filled, you can still go out to the course to enjoy the day and support the Chamber.
Almelund Night on the Town is being held on Friday, August 2nd & August 30th from 6 to 7 pm at 37455 Park Trail in Almelund. Enjoy this old-fashioned community get together by enjoying live music by Interstate Band, while you relax in your lawn chair. But before that, stop by their Farmer’s Market from 3 to 6 and take a tour of the Amador Heritage Center.
The Chisago Lakes area has so many fun opportunities to take advantage of. From the many shops that line our streets, to the great food you can find, to the never-ending sea of smiling faces that greet you during your visit, this is a wonderful place to live and visit.
Whether you’re starting anew in some phase of your life or you’re continuing on the path you’ve been on, remember that we can all start each day with a fresh energy, and there’s no better way to do that than to enjoy your surroundings with the people you love.

Chisago Lakes Triathlon Thank You!
On behalf of the Chisago Lakes Chamber and DuTriRun we’d like to thank all the volunteers for helping with our annual Triathlon. Congratulations to all the athletes on your hard work and tremendous accomplishment. We are proud to host such an exciting event and could not possibly do it without the help and support from our community.
Thank you to the wonderful local businesses, who sponsored, supported and donated items for the event. Thank you to Pleasant Valley Orchard, Northwoods Roasterie, Bernick’s, and Brinks Market for your donations specific to the volunteers. We all appreciate your generosity! Many area businesses helped with the overall execution of this event. Thank you to Deutschland Meats for providing meals for the athletes, Croix Valley Pick Up for garbage service, and the following for their generous sponsorship dollars: Fairview, MidWestOne Bank, LaBelle Real Estate Team, Svens, Security State Bank of Marine, WCB, and Gregory Contracting. Thank you to Chisago City Parks for the use of Paradise Park. We’d also like to thank The Uncommon Loon Brewery for opening your doors and hosting the awards ceremony and after party.
We could never hope to host an event like this without the support and partnership of the following organizations: Lakes Area Police, Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, Stacy Fire Hall, Almelund Fire Hall, Shafer Fire Hall, Lakes Area EMS, Fairview, and local lifeguards.
Riley Hoheisel was a first-year volunteer and his feedback sums up the entire event beautifully, “That was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had!” Plan on being a volunteer next year...mark Sunday, July 26th, 2020 on your calendar.

Message from Executive Director, Katie Malchow!
Our chamber office has been BUSY this summer! A few key events that I’m sure you’re aware of are the Triathlon and the Golf Tournament. Those come alongside our regularly scheduled luncheons, visitors bureau meetings, and board meetings, in addition to lots of other community initiatives. That said, our board has a renewed focus and I’d like to share with you a little bit about it.
Chisago lakes Chamber Mission:
To serve, support, and promote the businesses and organizations in our Chamber Community.
July 11th marked my first 6 months of being your Executive Director. In those first 6 months we had (or rather didn’t have) our Winter Blast, the Home and Business Expo, we integrated new technology in our building, launched the Chisago Lakes Visitors Bureau, organized and planned for high-level luncheon speakers, determined new measures to ensure progress and success, and partnered with many of you on projects, meetings, and overall community involvement projects. Throughout these past 6 months, it became clear to me that as an organization, we have a mission, vision, core values and we operate accordingly. However, I’m not sure that you know what we use as guidelines for daily, monthly, and annual decisions.
On July 16th the Executive Board met to fine tune and clarify our core values. We used the Traction method that has been highlighted in recent luncheons, and we had an amazing discussion about the future of the Chamber. We discussed a dreamy 10 year target, then boiled it down to a 3 year picture, and then a more definite (action oriented) 1 year plan. We plan to bring this whole process to your attention but wanted you to know that these discussions are happening, plans are being made, and action taken all in the name of a more engaged, robust, relevant, and exciting Chamber of Commerce.
It truly is an honor to represent our community of businesses as your Executive Director. As I take on the next 6 months, I hope to meet even more of you and learn about how we can all do business better together.
