October 2019- Enon Elementary School
Principal's Message
I would like to compliment your children on how they have started out the year with great Enon PRIDE behavior. The majority of time we are seeing students demonstrating positive attitudes, respect and responsibility, integrity, determination and excellence. Keep up the great work as we move into October!
We also appreciated seeing so many of you at our recent Back to School Nights! Thank you for your support. Our teachers were asked to provide you with home support information and it is our goal to partner with you to support student learning. We still need a number of room parents in Grades 3, 4 and 5. Please reach out to contact Jennifer Walker at jenwalker24@comcast.net if you are able to assist.
Our STEAM teacher, Kim Rice, is coordinating our Chat and Chew Book Clubs for any interested 2nd-5th graders! Our book clubs will be before school on either November 7th or 8th but you will need to sign up now and order the book. We do have some scholarships available to cover the book cost. Contact Melissa Bateman, guidance counselor, if needed. The order form is below.
This month we have our Book-o-Ween (Literacy Night) on Thursday, Oct. 24th at 6:30 p.m. Our night will include classroom games/activities and a new storyteller. More information is provided below.
We are also looking forward to our Veterans' Day Ceremony on November 11th and the return of our Grandparents and Special Friends Luncheons on Nov. 19-21. Both events require an RSVP form which is linked below with additional information. We would love to have you attend if you are able to do so.
If Ms. Riddick or I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to reach out to contact us at anytime.
In Service,
Dr. Paula Huffman

MAP Testing Information
We recently gave the MAP® Growth™ to all students in grades 2-5. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (in September, December-January, and April) in reading and math.
MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s academic readiness. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. MAP tests encourage teachers to focus on a student’s strengths and/or learning opportunities. Teachers use MAP results individually, in small groups, and in whole groups to guide instruction.
For more information about the MAP Growth test, visit: NWEA.org/Parent-Toolkit. You can obtain a copy of your student’s scores by contacting either Ms. Riddick or Dr. Huffman at Katherine_Riddick@ccpsnet.net or Paula_Huffman@ccpsnet.net or call the school at 530.5720. We are truly excited to focus on your student’s individual growth and achievement during the 2019-20 school year, and we appreciate your continued partnership.Promote Respect
October is National Bullying Awareness month. During that time our counselors will deliver classroom lessons to students on kindness and respect and explain what bullying is and how to report it.
