NOVEMBER 2022
Principal's Message
As we enter November, it is our established time to connect with your child’s teacher during Parent Teacher Conference Week, November 14-18. Your child’s teacher will be sending home communications to set up an appointment for you to meet in person and discuss the progress that has occurred thus far. It is vital that you actively participate in this essential meeting so that together we can further strengthen our partnership to prepare your child for the next grade. For the end of this first trimester, you can expect to hear updates from the iReady Diagnostic assessment in Math and Reading, an overall review of your child’s report card, and progress that has been made with regards to behavior and social emotional learning. Parent Conference Week is November 14-18
Parent Conference Week is coming soon! This year it is scheduled for Monday November 14th through Friday, November 18th. Students in grades 1st-6th will be dismissed at 12:45pm every day during that week. The preschool and TK schedules will remain the same.
Teachers will send home notices to schedule your parent conference appointment. These meetings are an important part of maintaining a home-school partnership in which staff and
families work together on the common goal of improving achievement for all students. At this
conference, your child’s teacher will:
Review your child’s report card for the first trimester of this year along with initial diagnostic results and Personalized Instruction Summary progress from i-Ready, Reading Counts, Math Facts fluency and district benchmarks.
Provide information on your child’s specific strengths and areas in need of growth, along
with suggestions for you to help your child at home.
Answer any questions you may have regarding classroom policies and procedures, home-
work, classroom assignments and/or projects, and expectations.
Give you an opportunity to share information about your child that will help the teacher
to better address his/her educational needs.
As a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher. Let’s work together to help
your child reach his/her potential.
College Day 2022
Eagles Can Earn Their Reading Counts Diploma
GOAL: 25 Million Words Read
Parents, did you know that Eagles can earn degrees based on their reading? Each book a student reads is eligible for Reading Counts! points. By taking and passing the Reading Counts! quiz for each book, students collect points. The more points a student earns, the closer a student gets to his reading goals as well as several rewards and prizes.
Students can earn up to four degrees, including Associate, Bachelors, Masters and the highest, a Doctorate. Medals are awarded at each grade level to the student with the highest quiz points! A trophy is awarded at each grade level for the class with the highest quiz points. If students reach the schoolwide goal of reading 25 million words, students will be treated to the event of year, the Battle of Corona, Dr. Flores vs. Mr. Garcia in a sumo wrestling spectacular!
You can check how many Reading Counts! points your student's books are by checking Book Expert Online. Students can also continue their reading online by using the CloudLibrary app to read e-books from the Ontario City Library. Click below to sign up for a library card.

Ms. Yessenia Hernandez Aguilar
5th Grade Student Teacher
Hello my name is Yessenia Hernandez Aguilar. I have been student teaching in Mrs. Annecchini’s class since August 2022. I grew up in La Puente which is a small city in the San Gabriel Valley. I am the oldest child of four; I have two brothers and a sister. I have been married to my loving husband for the last 3 years. He is truly my best friend and my biggest supporter. We have a 4 year old daughter, 3 year old son, and another baby boy coming December 2022. Most of my time is spent running after my toddlers and watching them play sports. My husband and I enjoy going to Rams games when time allows. I also really enjoy crafting on my free time.
My mom was a single mom and raised all 4 of us with the help of my grandparents. My mom instilled a high sense of responsibility and work ethic in my siblings and I. She always pushed us to not only work hard but to lead with our hearts.
I attended Don Julian Elementary from K-6th and had the pleasure of having Dr. Flores be my fourth grade teacher. He has been a guiding light throughout my personal and professional growth and is one the main reason I get to be part of the awesome team at Corona. I went to Fontana Middle School for 7th-8th grade. My family then moved back to La Puente and I attended Bassett High School and graduated in 2010. Like most first generation students I had to pay my way through my education so I worked full time at Enki Health Services, Inc., which is a nonprofit mental health agency. I went to Rio Hondo College where I graduated with my Associates Degree in Psychology in 2017. I then transferred to Cal State LA where I received a Bachelors in Psychology in 2019. After graduating with my B.A. I thought I would eventually go into some form of counseling being that I had been at Enki for so long but still wanted to be in education in some capacity. Then during the COVID-19 pandemic I began to feel a need to change careers and since I was a kid I always wanted to be a teacher, so I decided to go back to school and pursue getting my teaching credential. I am currently getting my credential from National University and Corona Elementary is helping me fulfill my student teaching requirement. I worked for Enki Heath Services for 12 years before leaving to begin my student teaching. Being able to work with mental health professionals and the clients we serviced I believe helped me become an advocate for mental health.
As a student teacher at Corona I get to fully emerge myself in the classroom. I get to plan lessons, collaborate with other teachers and school staff, as well as get to know students on a personal basis. I have to say that very early on I noticed how great the staff at Corona is and how they truly put students first. I have had the pleasure to be in the presence of Mrs. Annecchini and getting to learn from her and being able to share a classroom has been an invaluable experience. My favorite part of my job at Corona is working with my students and seeing them help one another to learn is very rewarding. I hope to continue being part of the team at Corona and being able to help our students reach all of their potential.

The City of Ontario has joined efforts with the Ontario-Montclair Promise Scholars, an award winning program designed to assist Ontario-Montclair youth by helping them prepare for their journey towards a college education.
All proceeds from the race will be donated to their program and the City's Empowerment Scholarship, which gives Ontario community members from low-income backgrounds the opportunity to participate in recreation activities, classes, and programs that will enrich their lives. The City is committed to providing a safe, healthy environment for all our community members to thrive.
The 5K Reindeer Run will begin and end in downtown Ontario! The 5K Reindeer Run is perfect for experienced superheroes, heroes-in-training, or real-life heroes who don't wear capes. Participants can run or walk, or families and friends may participate together.
The family-friendly Rudolph’s Dash Fun Run will begin at the Start/Finish line of the 5K Reindeer Run. Kids can run or walk this shorter course, or families may participate together. Rudolph’s Dash Fun Run is geared for younger superheroes, super moms or dads with their strollers, or anyone who wants to join the race on a smaller scale! After the race, spend time with us in our Rudolph’s Roundup area, where you can visit local businesses and race sponsors or have the kids participate in exercise activities and craft booths. There will be plenty of activities for the whole family!
