7th Grade Social Studies Creates Brochures
In Mr.Kay’s 7th grade social studies class, students created brochures about a South American countries. Each student was able to pick a country he or she wanted to research. The brochures described important information about the country such as the country’s language, the capital city, popular tourist attractions, animals of the region, geographical features, and reasons to visit. Students completed a gallery walk of the creative brochures.

Art I Students Make Their Marks
8th grade Art 1 students are in the process of a mark making project. They will be using pictures of everyday objects and copying them onto an 18” x 24” piece of paper using little marks that are creating value. When naming their projects they will have to use song titles that go along with their images.

Student Government Food Drive
The Southwood Student Government is excited to partner with Meals on Wheels for the NICE drive. NICE (Nutrition In Case of Emergency) Meals are provided to our recipients for use at times when we are unable to deliver hot meals due to inclement weather or power outages. The food drive will run now through November 19th. Please bring in the following items: single serving box of raisins , single serving can of pop-top fruit, single serving ready-to-eat canned pop-top soup *NO CONDENSED SOUP*.
*The grade level who brings in the most items will receive a hat day on Tuesday, November 23!*

SC Governor's School Informational Meeting
The South Carolina Governor's School Arts and Humanities meeting last week was very informative! 7th and 8th grade students and 6th grade dance students (12 years old by June 1st) can apply for the summer Odyssey programs in creative writing, dance, drama, music, and visual art. Students may apply for up to 2 arts areas. Check out the link below for information!
Masks Must Be Worn on Buses
Effective Monday, August 30th, face masks will be required on all school buses. If your child rides a school bus, please provide a mask for him or her to wear on the school bus. This new update and mandate was communicated to school districts by the South Carolina Department of Education on Thursday, August 26th. Superintendent Wilson communicated this change to all principals asking for notification be sent to all parents and students. If you have questions regarding this mandate, please contact Dr. Jerome Hudson at the Anderson School District Five District Office. The phone number is 864-260-5000.

Legally Blonde
Project Challenge’s new show Legally Blonde Jr. directed by Niki Callaham and Natalie Hill will be presented November 11th-21st . This classic musical theatre chick flick is about sorority president Elle Woods. When Elle Woods finds out her boyfriend Warner is going to Harvard and breaks up with her, she makes a plan. Elle finds new friends and challenges along her journey to win back Warner. Congratulations to all former and current Southwood

Early Dismissal / Appointment Policies
- When you arrive at school, please call the office: 864-260-5205 to let us know you are here to pick up a student for dismissal.
- Make sure to have your license ready and press the buzzer for entrance.
- Once the door is unlocked, be prepared to show your license through the window while you will remain in the foyer. Please DO NOT enter the office area.
- We will have a sign-out sheet in the foyer. Please know that we will get your student to you as quickly as we can.

1. Take the temperature of any child demonstrating shortness of breath, loss of taste, sore throat, muscle aches, chills, new or worsening cough, or runny nose.
2. Keep the child at home one or more days to monitor symptoms.
3. If you decide to have a COVID-19 test, notify the school nurse of the results so that the school can implement the Enhanced Health and Safety Protocols in the classroom(s) where your child attended.
*All information will remain confidential between the school and family. No other families will be given the health information of your child.
