What's Up in the Classroom?

Reading and Writing- Summarizing text has been our focus this week. Students have been reading a variety of texts (fiction and non-fiction) and summarizing them in 5 to 7 sentences. They are really nailing it!

Spelling - You may have wondered why your child didn't have a spelling sort this week. We are taking a break from spelling sorts and moving into Greek and Latin roots. Students were divided up based on winter MAP scores. They will spend 20 minutes each day practicing Greek and Latin roots, word analysis and vocabulary, literal comprehension, interpretive comprehension, and literary response and analysis skills.

Math - We are working hard to turn fractions into decimals and vice versa this week. Students will have to be able to place these decimals on a number line, compare them, and turn them from decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals.

Science - We are almost done with our astronomy unit. Students have until Spring Break to finish up their modules and packet.

Wax Museum

It's almost time for our wax museum!! This fun event is this coming Tuesday (March 24th) from 5:30-6:30. Students should come in full costume attire. If they are here 5 to 10 minutes early, that would be perfect! There will be free popcorn for all who attend!!

Health Talk

The dreaded "health talk" is almost here! I have purposely NOT shared much with the kids regarding it because they seem to have a strong aversion to it! With that being said, it's one week from today (March 26) at 2:00. If you'd like to attend, you are more than welcome. The boys will be meeting in my room (5) and the girls will be meeting in the library (story telling area).

Our Madison field trip is quickly approaching. Our class will have 10 extra seats on the bus for parent chaperones. As of right now, I know of 6 people that are planning to attend (Johnny's mom, Mitchell's mom, Paige's mom, Ella's mom, Olivia's mom and Emma G.'s mom). If you'd like to attend, please email me to let me know. I'm hoping everyone that wants to ride the bus can but I don't know how many of you there are! Driving is also an option. You can follow the bus if you'd like and your child can ride home with you from Madison. So, please let me know if you are an approved volunteer and have interest!!
