April LMC Updates
A message from the Library Media Center Staff
Did you know?
Plus, students and staff have the opportunity to share their favorite books by writing the titles on slips that are being posted outside of the LMC. Everyone who participates is put in a drawing for free books!
We also strive to make our libraries safe, comfortable spaces where everyone feels welcome and in turn, can develop a love for literacy and passion for learning about the world around them.
2,584 books have been checked out this month! Most popular titles:
Library Lessons!
Students have been learning and engaging in LMC class this month and developing their information literacy skills.
Mrs. Beyerl has been working with the upper-grade English classes on online research using databases instead of relying on Google. Students have learned why it's important to use a database for research and how to use them. Some of the databases we've explored are Badgerlink, Explora, Britannica School, History Reference Center and Newspaper Archives.
3rd grade students have been working on identifying NonFiction books and the Dewey Decimal system. 4th grade students are learning about poet Shel Silverstein in an author study, while 5th grade students created their own Book Trailers using the online program Animoto. All TRIS students are also learning about poetry and writing their own, as April is Poetry month.
2nd grade students also are working on writing their own acrostic poems while learning about poetry. They are also diving into the library catalog and finding their own books using Destiny Discover. 1st grade students learned about fairy tales, fractured fairy tales and folktales and will begin to learn how to use Pebble Go a reserach database for elementary age children. And kindergartners are also using Pebble Go in addition to learning about biographies and ABC order.
