Chancellor News and Notes
November 2, 2015
Happy November!
This weekend was rainy, but hopefully you had a good one! Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour if they are the old-school kind that don't reset themselves (for example- the battery-powered clocks hanging in your classrooms!). I was looking at mine a few minutes ago, thinking "how is it already 10?!" then realized I hadn't reset it...
REMINDERS for the week:
- Today is the last day to order Lunch Bunch (yummy potato soup and salad this time)
- Tuesday is Election Day (eat in classrooms)
- Tuesday is also the 50th Day of School! Remind your students if they want to dress up, and feel free to show some examples (something as simple as cuffed jeans or capris and a white shirt fit the 50's theme, so doesn't have to complicated!)
- Wednesday after school is a ThirtyOne shopping party, if you need some new organizational bags! There is a flyer on Marie's door in the office if you don't know what ThirtyOne is (basically it's awesome stuff to contain all your stuff). Some pictures are below for examples of ThirtyOne bags.
- Friday is Lunch Bunch, bring your money if you ordered!
- Saturday is Alief Proud Day!
Don't forget to Vote tomorrow!
ThirtyOne Examples:
A random 50's themed class from google
Alief Proud Day is almost here!
What is Alief Proud Day?
Alief Proud Day is a free community event taking place to spread the word that Alief is a proud community, a proud area and a proud school district.
Date: Saturday, November 7 at Crump Stadium
Bike Rally: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Festival: 9:00 a.m. to noon
What is it? Awesome student performances, food, door prizes, a vendor fair and school/program information for all of our schools!
Chancellor will have a booth set up, so please come out if you can and support our school and district! If you want to join us, just wear a school shirt and come hang out! You can help us break the world record for number of people doing jumping jacks too (last year we jumped rope, this year jumping jacks, hmmm..is there a pattern forming for our record-breaking activities?). This is a huge event and last year it was actually pretty fun! We will have a sign-in sheet in our booth if you want to come up and enjoy the festivities with us!

November Donation Drive coming soon!
Now that we are in the month of November, our Annual Gems and Gents Donation Drive is here! The House of Amos is our local food and clothing pantry, located right down the road on Boone. Every year we do a donation drive in the month of November to support the House of Amos. We have a number of families here at Chancellor that receive support from the House of Amos, as well as many others in the area.
Items most in need include: toiletry items of all kinds (soap, toothbrushes/toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper, tissues, sample laundry detergent packets, etc.), gently used clothing items, and money is always accepted. Money is used by House of Amos to purchase items at a huge discount from the Houston Food Bank (specific items that the pantry is in need of, rather than random donations, which are good too, but money lets them buy exactly what they are running short of in the food pantry).
Look for flyers to go home later this week for parents. Brittny Geyen, sponsor of the Gems and Gents club, will be the primary contact person if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for helping us make this a successful donation drive before the Thanksgiving Holidays!
A closing thought- you may not hear it from those around you- your students, your parents, your fellow co-workers, your families- but know that your hard work is appreciated day in and day out. We all get to the point where we feel worn down and tired, but we keep moving forward, keep learning and growing, and keep lifting up others to higher places, here at work and at home. Every thing you do is appreciated by someone, whether they tell you or not! But why not share that thanks out loud???

Shower those around you with gratitude in the upcoming weeks. Start a personal November "gratitude challenge" and share your thankfulness with others. Have a blessed week friends.
