Highlights of the Week
I hope that everyone has taken advantage of the beautiful weather during the 5 day weekend, as well as spending some quality time with family. Our teachers took part in Endless Skies Teachers' Convention on Thursday and Friday, which gives teachers the opportunity to sharpen their skills in a variety of areas, as well as collaborate with other professionals to support student learning. Our keynote speaker, Michael Landsberg from TSN Off the Record, spoke about the challenges that he faces due to mental illness. I appreciated the words that he spoke as it gave me insight to those who struggle with mental illness. I believe that it is through knowledge and understanding that allows us to build empathy and compassion.
Clearview School Division has been focusing on the inclusive programming. Our school is highly respected in our division for the programming we provide our high needs students, but it remains an area of growth. This past week, to support our staff, we had Clearview's occupational therapist, Alana Ell, and speech language pathologist, Jennifer Brown, were in our building on Monday. Jennifer and Alana have been proving support for our students for a number of years, and assist our staff in building strategies to best suite the needs of our students in their area of expertise. They visit our school monthly and their recommendations are highly valued by our teachers and educational assistants. On Wednesday, Candace Hodder (Director of Inclusion) visited our school with our newly hired Behavioural Consultant, Barb Piers. Barb comes to our division with a wealth of knowledge in regards to supporting student behaviour, and her work will come alongside Alana and Jennifer to further support our staff and the programming for students.
This past 3 day week we filled our school days with a number of activities. Some highlights were mini dunkers, basketball practice and games, curling, the nutrition program, Valentine's Day parties, and a farewell to Mrs. C. I assure you that the majority of our days students are engaged in learning, but it good to have fun as well.
Ski Day at Alliance - Thursday
I am pumped for our annual Ski Day at Alliance on Thursday, it is truly one of my favorite days of the year! The snow at the hill is in great condition, and I can't wait to see our students enjoying a day on the slopes. Thank you in advance to all the parents that are able to attend, as it takes many hands to help the kiddos get their skis underneath them and able to cruise around.
Please note that if your child(ren) has their own equipment to take the hill they will not be able to take it on the school bus for safety and space reasons. Please let me or Alison know if you need your child's gear transported, and we will make arrangements to get it there and back.
Also, if you child is not planning on coming with the school to ski on Thursday would you also let myself or Alison know.
Thank you to Parent Council for the Delicious Snack!
Student of the Week - Cash Walstrom
Cash is a thoughtful student who is consistently kind and respectful to others. He also helps look after our learning environment. Cash spent time before recess pushing in chairs, returning wobble stools to the correct students and even problem solved a misplaced chromebook. Thank you Cash for helping maintain a neat classroom!
Student of the Week - Dax Robinson
Dax is socializing more with his peers and consistently makes an effort to participate in class activities. Recently, Dax has played Heads Up Seven Up and Hangman with his peers. Way to go, Dax! I am proud of you for trying new things and for being will to work with various groups!
Community Engagement with Clearview Board of Trustees - April 4th
Please mark your calendars and invite anyone in the Donalda Community that would like to hear the direction Clearview is leading our school, and to have a voice that impacts the decision making process. This is an opportunity to meet with our Superintendent, Scot Leys, as well as our Board of Trustees to ask questions, collaborate and guide the direction of our school in its unique context.
More details of this event will be coming out soon!
