Our Concert is November 3rd!
Performance is one of the Indiana State Music Standards and at Joan Martin each grade level has ONE concert a year. This concert is our "test" for the semester and all students will be receiving a grade for their effort and personal best during the concert. The concert will take on November 3rd, at 6:30pm. Please let Mrs. Amsler know in advance if you have a conflict in schedules so an alternate assignment can be worked out.
Students should wear ‘nice’ dress clothes. Boys- pants such as khakis or dark colors and a polo or button up shirt. Girls- dress pants/ skirts/dresses. If you choose to wear a dress or skirt it must be AT LEAST knee length with shorts, tights, or legging underneath. Please do not wear t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, or shirts with writing/logos on them. If you have questions regarding this, please see me.
Grandparents and special friends are invited to at 2:00pm in the Joan Martin Gym. Any student wishing to leave and go home with their grandparent or special friend MUST have a note indicating so prior to the afternoon of the performance.
The evening of the concert, the school doors will open at 6:00. Students should plan on meeting at 6:15 pm in their classrooms. If you arrive prior to 6:15, please supervise your own children in the gym, as the classroom doors will not be open until that time. Please plan on joining us on the evening of November 3rd, at 6:30pm for an exciting musical evening.

Drama Club Information!
This year we are doing "The Lion King, Kids", based on the award-winning Broadway musical and movie. There will be an optional “Intro to Musical Theater” Workshop for interested students on Thursday, November 5 after school until 5:00pm. Students will be introduced to some basics of musical theater, get a better idea of how to prepare for auditions, and get a taste for what’s to come.
ALL students interested should attend auditions after school on November 10th until 5pm.
Rehearsal begin in November and take place every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5:00pm. Our performance will be February 26.
Drama club is open to any 4th grade student. This in an extra curricula club and is optional to participate in. In 2007, the Hobart Educational Foundation awarded grant money to help in the cost of starting a drama club. Through donations we have been able to keep this tradition going!

What Are "Mad Minute" Tests?
We are continuing our study of reading music with our "Mad Minute" test series. Students have 1 minute to name 30 note names that they need to have memorized. Memorizing note names improves students’ overall music reading performance; it decreases the amount of time to translate written music to instruments and allows students to move onto more challenging concepts.
Although the grades will be posted in the grade book, hang tight- they will be averaged at the end of the semester for a single Mad Minute grade. We are tracking our progress so that we can see if they are improving on their music reading skills. Please support your student by helping him/her practice with flash cards or the optional worksheets that are sent home!
If you have any questions or concerns about this program, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Amsler!
