Watergate Scandal
The Watergate Scandal was a political scandal that occurred during the 1970's. Five men broke into Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate office complex in Washington D.C. The Nixon administration tried to cover up the break-in. Soon after Nixon's reelection, two reporters from the Washington Post decided to start to investigate this break-in. They soon think that Nixon had something to do with it.
Richard Nixon
Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States. During his second term of presidency, Congress and citizens across America soon found out that Nixon was not telling the truth. John Dean later admitted that Nixon did play a role in the scandal. He wanted to break into the Democratic office to steal their plans so that he would receive a second term in office. Not only did he lie to the people of America, he also withheld evidence from the Supreme Court. He was going to be Impeached for his actions, but resigned before doing so. Gerald Ford, the 38th President and former Vice President, pardoned Nixon of all of his crimes.
John Dean
john Wesley Dean III served the White House Council that later explained Nixon's role in the Watergate Scandal. He was known as the "master manipulator of the cover-up" by the FBI. He pleaded guilty to one felony account in exchange for becoming a key witness in this case. He still had to complete a sentence due to covering it up.
