HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR CHILD gain CONFIDENCE & SUCCESS?
POWERFUL WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD MAKE HUGE GAINS:
- MULTIPLICATION FACTS - PRACTICE while you are driving in the car OFTEN - even if you feel your child knows them! It keeps the facts fresh in their mind & makes fractions and learning higher math concepts much easier!
- PRACTICE TYPING - http://www.typingclub.com Class assignments are often typed. Plus, all state tests are taken online. Helping to ensure your child is comfortable with typing will greatly reduce his/her stress and help them SHOW WHAT THEY KNOW!
- READ with your child OR reward them for READING 2 nights a week! - Reading broadens their vocabulary SO much more than we often realize!
- LEXIA PRACTICE online 2 nights a week! - Lexia is an online reading program that fills gaps and teaches phonics, grammar, comprehension, and a multitude of skills that improve your child's reading & success in all subjects!
You'll be amazed at the growth your child can make!
SCHOOL DAY & TWEAKS with TRAFFIC - 1st Bell @ 8:00 am
- 7:35 am - Everyone should time arrival after 7:35 am
- 7:35 am - Car-rider gate opens
- 8:00 am - 1st bell - All students should ARRIVE BY 8:00 am
- 8:10 am - Tardy.
- IF NEED EARLY CHECK-OUT - Always by 2:45pm. We do not check out children between 2:45 - 3:05 pm to avoid confusion for students, end-of-day classroom business, & traffic problems. If you need to check your child out early for an appointment, be sure to pick them up before 2:45pm.
- 3:05 pm - school dismisses
- 3:05 pm - car-rider gate opens
NOTE: 7:50 am - There is hardly any traffic!
Police & Homeowners organizations have ask that parents do not arrive early & park along roadways or in housing additions to wait for the car-rider gates to open before or after school. Time your arrival for after 7:35 or 3:05 - so traffic can continue flowing.
Thank you for your patience & understanding. We will work hard to make this a WONDERFUL YEAR for your child.
HONOR CHOIR TRYOUTS! Additional Fun!
- Auditions will continue into next week as needed until all eligible students have been given the opportunity to try out.
- Audition material has been taught in class as well as posted on Canvas.
ACADEMIC TEAM TRYOUTS! Fun!
Academic Team is a collection of students who enjoy competing in Academic meets or Quiz bowls. They answer questions on topics such as history, literature, science, math, pop culture, and current events. Students benefit from exposure to a broad range of school and cultural subjects, memorization and study skills, and an improved ability to cooperate and work in teams. The team will compete in 3-4 academic meets during the school year. Practices will be 1-2 times a week before school starting at 7:10 a.m.
The 1st round of tryouts will occur DURING one of your CORE CLASSES (5th grade during Math, 6th grade during ELA). Tryouts will be on Wednesday, September 14th. The first round will consist of a general knowledge test over a broad course of topics that one might see at an academic meet. The top-scoring students from these sessions will be invited to the 2nd round of tryouts.
The 2nd round of tryouts will occur during lunch, the following week. In the 2nd round of tryouts, students will answer questions similar to how they would compete in an actual academic meet. Questions will be asked and students will get points based on correct answers and the speed at which they gave those answers. The final team will consist of 10-12 students from both 5th and 6th grades.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Koch (kochk@mustangps.org) or 256-6955.
