Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
April 28, 2017
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
WOW! State mandated testing is nearing completion--what a relief for students and teachers! Actually, reports from the buildings and general observations indicate testing has been event free from factors the Fulton District can control. Even though state-wide testing is complete, please remind your student(s) that grading continues through the end of school. All kids should be encouraged to keep working and finish strong!
Again, school continues through May 16! Attendance still counts and is critical for student success and ultimately your school district’s State of Missouri Accreditation. Please ensure your student attends school through the remainder of this year.
Finally, year end is always challenging for discipline. We have noted an increase in inappropriate language and behavior at the secondary level. Consequences per discipline policies and procedure continue through the last day of school. Also of concern is the use of e-cigarettes, which are treated as tobacco products with Policy JG-R1, Student Discipline. Please encourage your student(s) to exhibit positive, respectful behavior.
In my view, the year has been positive. We sincerely appreciate you sending us great kids to work with.
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent

FPS "Of the Year" Awards
Janet Trowbridge, FHS Special Education Teacher, was named Teacher of the Year. Janet says she wishes everyone could have her job working with kids. She is often at school into the evening preparing her lessons to make school great for the kids she teaches. Janet is also the co-Student Council sponsor. The culture of Fulton High School benefits greatly from the enthusiasm and hard work Janet puts into Student Council. FPS is very lucky to have Janet!

Bryan Abbott, Director of Transportation, was named the Support Staff of the Year. Bryan and his staff successfully transport over 1,200 students each day. They manage to make things work when they seem to be impossible. Bryan said he wished this award could have gone to all of his staff because they work as a team. FPS is also very luck to have Bryan!
David W. White Outstanding Service in Education Award
Here is an excerpt from what Kelly had to say in her nomination:
"During the past five years, she has spent countless hours volunteering her time in the band room. When she isn't heading up a band parent committee, Leslie is often in the band office offering her time. She enters points for student band letters, takes care of our uniforms, feeds our kids before games and during competitions, and organizes fundraisers. Most importantly, Leslie is a great supporter of our kids."
Well done, Leslie. Thank you for your support of Fulton Public Schools!
Instructional Technology "SuperSonic" Teacher of the Week!
Josh Howard, Instructional Technology Coach, has implemented a SuperSonic Teacher of the week program. Teachers nominate their colleagues when they see great teaching while integrating technology into lessons. Cassie Elam, FHS ELA Teacher, was named the first ever SuperSonic Teacher of the Week! Congratulations!
Cassie had THREE DIFFERENT NOMINATIONS. Here's some of what her peers said about her:
"Cassie is always looking for new ways to integrate technology into her classroom to make her lessons interactive and engaging. She didn't hesitate to earn her tech badges, so that she could learn about all the different ways to include technology in her lessons. When she does try something new she always does it with enthusiasm, creating excitement for her students."
"Cassie regularly incorporates new technology in her lessons which makes learning more interesting for her students."
"Kids just love her class. She's always trying new things and students just love the energy she has. She is passionate about technology and always finds unique ways to use it."
