RespectFEST Conference to Examine Teen Dating Violence
The 11th Annual Choose Respect Montgomery RespectFEST Conference will be held on Sunday, March 29, at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center. The event, which examines issues surrounding teen dating violence, will include a resource fair; yoga and self-defense demonstrations; games and activities; and interactive workshops for students, parents/guardians, educators, and youth service providers.
One in three teens in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner; this number far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence. Nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year.
