Slash and burn and desertification
Alex Denny Period 4
Slash and burn technique
Slash and burn agriculture is the process of cutting down the vegetation in a particular plot of land, setting fire to the remaining foliage, and using the ashes to provide nutrients to the soil for use of planting food crops. This practice is not good for the environment because it cause smoke from the fire and that pollutes our air and after they use the land it loses its nutrients and becomes cracked and dried up.
Desertification
desertification is the rapid depletion of plant life and the loss of topsoil at desert boundaries and in semiarid regions, caused by a combination of drought and the over exploitation of grasses and other vegetation by people. Due to the practice of slash and burn the fields may gradually lose the fertility they once had. The result may be desertification, a situation in which land is infertile and unable to support growth of any kind.
The impact on us
The slash and burn not only takes away our trees which we need so that we can have clean air to breath but sometimes it also leads to desertification. Which loses all the nutrients and becomes unable to use to grow food.
