ELAR Updates
August 2018
Reading/Writing Timeline
As we enter this new journey on our LC Writing Curriculum, please feel free to contact me if you would like extra guidance navigating through the new Curriculum Document.
In the past, we were allowed to adjust the ELAR Timeline, to coincide with specific life events and celebrations accordingly to the calendar year. Now that our District has restructured our Timeline, we have been informed of the following:
"We ask that all campuses maintain fidelity to the timeline and to the standards listed on the curriculum documents. Please do not move units around. The sequence is well-thought out and purposeful. When we send out out the curriculum feedback survey, we welcome all feedback from teachers and we will consider the necessary adjustments to make the curriculum better each year."
Please be mindful of the above request as you plan throughout the year.
The ELAR Department would also like to share a resource that may be helpful to you. The Writing Units of Study Orientations share some beginning of the year information that may support our work in writing. Please keep in mind that we have made choices as a curriculum team that may not be reflected 100% in these videos. However, Lucy Calkins shares some nuggets of wisdom that may answer some questions you have.
