Busy! Busy! Busy!

This week, we are comparing and contrasting Christmas in the United States with Christmas in other parts of the world (Sweden, Ethiopia, Mexico and Australia). We are going to make gingerbread houses with our reading buddies on Wednesday. We are going to have our final rehearsal for the winter program on Thursday. We are reading The Nutcracker, crafting and exchanging gifts. In between all of this excitement, I am introducing the concept of area and starting a unit on persuasive writing.

Library Books

You probably received a notification that library books are due tomorrow. We rounded up all the books and I took them back to Pack Library today. Ms. Jesse and I went through each card and renewed any books that were not returned and made a list of these. (There were only a few.) We will resume our visits to Pack Library in late January.

Winter Program

The Winter Program will be this Thursday in the Asheville High Auditorium from 6:00 to 8:00. The K, 1, 2 show, "A Bear-y Merry Holiday" is at 6:00 pm. The 3, 4, 5 show, "Happy, the High Tech Snowman" is at 6:45. Third-graders need to be there by 6:30, wearing "light" winter clothing.

Secret Holiday Friends

I guess if you have done something for two years in a row, you can call it a tradition. If so, this is one of my favorites. Today, the students drew the name of a classmate and they will give a gift to at the end of the week. They have been earning their own classroom money to spend, but I have asked that they write a letter or make a card for their secret friend at home one evening this week.

  • Thanks to Luna's family for providing snack these past two weeks.
  • Thanks to all the parents who chaperoned the field trip to the Nutcracker performance and to all the parents who provided scholarships.
  • Thanks for sending in supplies for gingerbread houses.
  • Thanks for all the love and light last week while I was in Charlotte for Wilson's surgery.

Enjoy the Winter Break!!!
