Upcoming PCS Holiday Concert

On Thursday, January 11th, there will be a Holiday Concert held at Petersham Center School. It will be held in the gym beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will be under the direction of Mrs. Angela Haynes.

All are invited to come! I hope to see you there!

Snow Days and Flurry Folder Days

Please remember to check email, all calls, FaceBook, TV and radio stations to know if a bad weather day is a true Snow Day or a Flurry Folder Day.

To date:

-we have had one day off due to no electricity - Monday, October 30th

-we have had one Flurry Folder Day - Tuesday, December 12th

-we have had one true Snow Day - Friday, December 22nd

Since we have missed one day due to no electricity and one due to a snow day, our school year has been extended by two days in June.

Reminder: Blizzard Bag Changes

  1. All Blizzard Bag assignments will be sent home in a light blue “Flurry Folder”.

  2. All assignments are due per grade level homework policy -- the due date will be on the coversheet of the flurry folder

  3. You can reach your teachers via the communication method listed on the flurry folder coversheet

A Christmas Carol

On Thursday, December 21st, Petersham Center School performed Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol". The sixth grade students were the actors/actresses and grades K-6 each performed their own song either during the play or during act changes. Under the direction of Mrs. Natasha Hanna, the play proved to a huge hit!!!!

What an incredible production!!! What costumes, backdrops, sets, and special effects!!! Warm thanks to Mrs. Hanna for the incredible amount of work and passion that she put into this PCS play!!! Also, thanks goes out to all K-6 teachers who worked with their students to ensure that they knew their parts!!! Students - you did such an awesome job with your lines and songs!!

A huge shout out also to parents and families that helped to make the costumes. Much appreciation also goes to Mrs. Leonard and her work on the sets. A special thanks goes out to the Legere family, along with Mr. Liversidge and Mr. Burke, as they set up the sound and special effects.

You all made PCS shine!!!!

A Note from our Nurse

Dear Families,

We have come to the time of year to expect cold and flu symptoms. Some of these are unavoidable but there are several things you can do at home to help prevent illness and keep everyone feeling healthy. Here are some tips to remember:

WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! This is still the best defense against illness. Encourage your children to wash, especially before meals, using soap and warm water. To ensure they are taking enough time to adequately kill germs, have them sing the ABC song while scrubbing.

Get plenty of rest. School age children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night. Grownups should try to get 8 hours.

Drink lots of fluids and eat a balanced diet - especially breakfast! I'm seeing a lot of children with stomachaches and headaches due to hunger.

Dress appropriately for cold weather. Please help your child choose warm, comfortable clothing for school each day, including socks. We are still seeing children wearing shorts and some with no coats/jackets. Make sure they are wearing a coat, appropriate clothing and you may want to consider a hat and gloves as well. Even in cool weather (20° or above) students go outside for recess.

Unfortunately, even with the best care, many still get sick.

Please call if you have any questions regarding the school sickness policy. Keep in mind, if you are questioning your child’s illness, the best person for your child to see is their primary care as the school nurse cannot diagnose. If you have a change in address or phone number, remember to contact the school office. It is very important to be able to reach you in the event your child becomes ill at school. Have a safe and HEALTHY winter!

Holiday Coat Drive

In total, the Petersham coat drive received & delivered donations of about 60 bags of clothing for folks in need. These items were dropped off at our school, the Memorial Library, Petersham Country Store, and The Village School.

Thanks to all the anonymous donors for helping make this drive such a success!

Porcino visit to PCS sponsored by the Petersham Cultural Council

A warm thanks to the Petersham Cultural Council for sponsoring John Porcino's visit to PCS! Students and staff throughly enjoyed his unique multicultural holiday and winter program, as is evident in the pictures below.

PCS School Council

Mrs. Menard, Principal of PCS, will be starting up again the School Council for PCS this February. The School Council is made up of staff, parents, and community members. (Please note, it is a state rule that we need to have equal numbers of people in each of the represented groups.) This committee will have monthly meetings on a Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. (which Tuesdays will be determined by the committee members). These meetings will run through May.

If you are interested in serving on the PCS School Council, please either send Kerri Lyden, the PCS PTG President, an email at kerrilyden@yahoo.com or call her at 978-895-1275. After she has the list of interested people, PTG members will have to vote on exactly who will represent them (again this is a state rule).

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Principal Menard.

Before/After School

Please remember that there is no staff supervising students prior to school beginning, or after school ends, each day. Student safety is our top concern, so we have reminded students that they should not be playing with balls in the front as many times students have run into the parking lot to retrieve them. They should also not be on the playgroup without parent supervision.

Thanking you in advance, once again, for helping to keep all of our students safe and sound!
