South Lebanon Elementary
Fifth Avenue Falcons November 2020
Principal's Message
As we move into the 2nd marking period I want to remind everyone that parent/teacher conferences will be held at the end of the month. If you have not yet signed up for a conference time, please use the link below. The link will close on Monday, November 9, 2020. Conferences will be held in person with an option to attend virtually. If you would like to attend virtually, you must sign up for a time then contact your child's teacher to let them know that you would like a virtual conference.
In closing, as we transition into the colder months of the year, please ensure that your child dresses for the weather. The students will continue to have outdoor recess throughout the winter months.
Sincerely,
Mark D. Brown, Principal
October Students of the Month
Student Pickup and Drop Off
For those that arrive early for pickup at the end of the day, we ask that you not block the handicap spaces at the front of the school so that our families and students in wheelchairs have access to these spaces. Our staff will direct you to pull forward when we are ready to begin dismissal.
I want to also remind you to continue to enter and exit off of Evergreen and Endress road during arrival and dismissal. This prevents traffic from blocking our bus lanes and Rte. 897. At the end of the day we will allow traffic to exit on 897 when the line clears the intersection.
We Are Hiring!
Learning Facilitator Connection, Matt Davis
Do you ever find yourself asking your child about school and all you get back is something like, “OK” or “Fine”? I know that conversations with my own fifth grader about school is sometimes a challenge and getting more out of him than short answers feels like pulling teeth. Sometimes it takes a fresh question about school to get the ball rolling.
To have a more productive conversation about school, I try to move away from, “How was school today?” and have started asking different kinds of questions such as, “What’s the coolest thing you did today?” It doesn’t always work out the way that I hope, but a different conversation starter usually can get us moving in a positive direction. Other examples of conversation starters include:
· “What made you laugh today?”
· “What did you do during your special?”
· “What was the most creative thing you did today?”
· “Pretend you are the teacher. How would you describe the day?”
· “Tell me what you learned today that you would like to know more about.”
