W.I.N. Time (What I Need)
October 6, 2021
Lincoln Families,
We want to communicate an important change in how our building provides intervention and enrichment for all students. This will be utilized at all three elementary schools in our district. We look forward to your support in our efforts to incorporate this new system.
This year we will be implementing a new system at Lincoln called WIN (What I Need) Time. This will include two 30-minute blocks of time (one for reading and one for math) during each day when all students will meet in groups designed with their academic needs in mind. This time is built into our master schedule, and meaningful instruction will be provided to promote growth for all students.
Many adults will be working with students during WIN Time, including classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and special education staff.
All decisions will be made by a team of teachers, including your child’s classroom teacher. These decisions will be based on current student data. We will be monitoring student progress and making adjustments when needed. All students in a grade level will go to one of the WIN Time groups to receive direct, skill-based instruction based on their individual needs.
I am excited about the opportunities that WIN Time offers every student in the building. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s placement during WIN Time, please contact your child’s teacher. I can help answer general questions about WIN Time.
WIN Time is scheduled to begin on October 28.

Parent Core Value Newsletter
This months core value is- Individuality. Thinking about who you are and the gifts and talents you have. The activities below are meant to help guide a discussion about Individuality.
KNOW IT:
ASK A KID:
• Think of all of the things you enjoy doing.
Do you like to draw, hike, swim, put puzzles together, make slime, bake, etc.?
Think of how these interests and talents can help you make a difference in the lives of others. • Are there activities that you are interested in, would like to learn more about or would like to give a try?
Talk with your parents and see if you can explore and discover these options.
Trying new things can help you find out what you are good at and what you are meant to do.
ASK A GROWN UP:
• How old were you when you discovered what you wanted to be as an adult?
• What experiences helped you discover who you are and who you are meant to be?
• What does it mean to you to make a difference?

What Is Social Emotional Learning?
"SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions."
We integrate SEL lessons and strategies throughout our day. Some examples are:
- Our school wide SEL program is Second Steps.
- Each classroom also uses community circles to make connections with students and create a sense of belonging.
- We also work to ensure each students is greeted in the morning by a caring adult.
- We also use the Zones of Regulation from the Social Thinking Curriculum.
If you have questions or concerns about your child's social and emotional development please reach out to your child's teacher or our school counselor, Mr. Botten. scott.botten@esd401.org
AMP Collaboration With ART, MUSIC, PE
As an AMP (Art, Music, PE) team we read the book "Count The Monkeys" to our whole group of first graders. It's an interactive story where animals, people, and obstacles keep getting in the way of finding and counting those silly monkeys. The students are on a rotation where they will find adventure with music, PE, and art that is centered around our story.
In the art rotation, students were given a large section of butcher paper hung on the wall in the hallway. Students were challenged with the question "What adventure story can you find in your paper?" Together, we brainstormed adventure stories we could find that involved counting and obstacles similar to the book we read together. They then set off to find what story was in their piece of the paper lining the hallway. Students came alive with their stories as their markers touched the paper. They were laughing and sharing the wild and often silly adventures they had discovered in their papers... ~ Mrs. Teasley (Lincoln Art Teacher)
THANK YOU Families!
