News & Notes from Mrs. Kapuchuck
I hope all of you have enjoyed the extended weekend with your children!
As a reminder, this Friday, February 14th is Valentine's Day and an Early Release Day for students. Teachers will participate in district-wide professional development on cognitive science and learning from 1:30 pm-3:00pm.
Information regarding Spring Eagle Clubs and Running Eagles will come home with students in the next few weeks. How can it already be time for Spring clubs?!
We still have a small number of Sweetheart and Gamer Smencils left. Students may purchase Smencils in the office anytime this week while supplies last. They are $1 each. These have been a huge hit with the students!
All parents should have received an email from me yesterday with dates and times for PreK applications and Kindergarten registration. These dates are below. Please share this news with friends and neighbors who live in the MVES district!
Monday, March 9th: 9:00 am-6:00 pm
Tuesday, March 10th: 9:00 am-3:00 pm
You received the notice from RCPS at the end of last week that Tuesday, March 3 is now a TEACHER WORKDAY -- with NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.
As you know, Dr. Scheikl has proposed a pilot program for staggered start times in the TA district for the upcoming school year, which includes Mountain View Elementary. This pilot will be discussed and possibly voted on at the board meeting this Monday, February 10th at Wilbur Pence Middle School. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm. Approximate times for elementary students are 8am-2pm and approximately 9am-3pm for secondary. All parents are invited to attend this board meeting in order to learn more.
The PTO meeting will end promptly at 6:20 due to the Board meeting so that parents can attend both meetings if they wish.
I wanted to finish this week by letting you know how thankful we are to have your children at MVES. On any given day, anyone in our building is able to witness the joy, excitement, and dedication for children. Just last week, I was headed down the yellow hall to a classroom and on my way, I could see students learning the water cycle through hands-on learning as well as students in the hallway playing a basketball game in order to gather data for a fraction activity they were doing in class. Students were genuinely having fun while learning. The beauty of this is that there are amazing things happening all over our school on a daily basis. This certainly isn't the way school was for me as a student and I am sure many of you would agree. Mountain View is such a special school thanks to our teachers, staff, and students who give 100% each day. #kidsdeserveit
Have a great week!

Flu season is officially here at MVES. Over the past few weeks, we have had an increase in illness and confirmed cases of the flu. Here at school, we are encouraging frequent hand washing and our custodians are working hard to keep all spaces sanitized. As always, your child should stay home from school if he/she has a fever greater than 100 degrees F and should not return to school until he/she has been fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicine for at least 24 hours. See the flu guides attached.
Please, as always, call the school or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if your child will be absent from school.
Thank you so much for all of your help in keeping our students healthy! Please feel free to contact Leslie Kapuchuck and/or Nurse Wanda if you have any questions at 540-438-1965.
