The Mustang Minute

March 8, 2019 - Issue 25

Ola, Bonjour, Hallo, Bom Dia!

If you can't tell, this week was Foreign Language Week at CMS. We have been having a great time learning about many new cultures as well as those present in our school everyday. Students have been speaking in their home languages over the announcements, doing a myriad of activities in their foreign language classes, and doing trivia each day at lunch. The school looks particularly festive with all the language posters up. We have all been encouraged to "level up" our language and culture knowledge this week.

We are also starting our recognition of Women in History month. Our history teachers kicked off a contest this week where students can research and write about an important women from history. All submissions will be entered to win a $10 Amazon gift card and a submission will be read each morning on the announcements. I already have two great entries and can't wait to get more!

Next week is our final week for the PJ drive. The Prescott has taken a substantial lead at 110 to our 79 but I know we can collect even more! Every pair of PJs helps us to win and (more importantly) goes to a child in need!

Nurses Corner

This coming week, the nurses and physical education teachers will be conducting postural screens on all sixth and seventh grade students who are in spring Wellness classes, as required by Massachusetts state law. This will take place during your child's regularly scheduled Wellness class and we will respect your child's privacy at all times. A letter was sent home by ConnectEd in the fall to all parents. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like another copy of the letter, please contact us at 781-440-5926 or tsperber@norwood.k12.ma.us . Thank you.

Washington DC Updates

With only 82 days until we leave preparation are starting to heat up!

Within the next few weeks the grade 8 teachers will pass out rooming forms for students to select their roommates. If you think your child will need help with this process please reach out to their homeroom teacher, Ms. McCaffrey (guidance), or myself. We are happy to help make sure everyone ends up where they are comfortable.

On Thursday, March 28th we will have a mandatory parent meeting from 6:30-7:30. We will go over packing, fill out forms, and departure details. Students are welcome to attend this meeting as well.

Within the next couple of weeks we will also send out an online order form for DC T-shirts. We ask that all students purchase one for the trip. You can purchase one as well Mom and Dad - it's super cool!

Please note that final payments are due March 15th please contact EF directly if you have questions. If you have been assessed any overdue balances please call EF, most of these charges can be waived. If you are on a payment plan EF will complete your payments on that schedule.

New Library Reading Area Fundraiser

The PTO is sponsoring a school wide request for funds to create a comfortable reading area in our school library. We will be adding a space with sift chairs, cozy benches, a rug, and other items to entice reading! We have already had a seed donation from Big Y Supermarket for $3500 to get us started! The $13, 000.00 would allow us to make over an entire section of the library for students use. Below is the link to make a donation - feel free to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the like! CMS is working to make our library the place to be!
