For the Community
Hello Daggett Family and Friends!
Every month we will try to put out a newsletter that lets you know so of the great things that we did this month and some of the things that we are looking forward to next month. I want you to know that this last month has gone by so quickly but I have really enjoyed getting to be brought into the family that has been created here at Daggett Middle.
Some really great things going on at Daggett Middle
We have started up our cheerleading squad again and currently have about 15 girls on the squad. They are working really hard despite getting a late start to the year. Thank you to Ms. Richter and Ms. Vergara.
We are going to have our first pep rally of the year. Mrs. Wilkinson has volunteered to be our pep rally master. We will be celebrating our fall sports and how great they have all been doing.
We have had our food pantry twice now since the start of the year and it has gone really well. Some of our students have been volunteering to support it. We will have our next food pantries on the 14th and 28th of October.

We need your help!
September: Mess up a toilet/vandalize a restroom
October: Smack a staff member on the backside
November: Kiss your friends' girlfriend at school
December: Expose your private area (there is a crude saying that goes with it but I am sure you understand)
January: Jab a breast
February: Mess up school signs
March: Make a mess in the courtyard or cafeteria
April: Steal something
May: Ditch Day
June: Flip off the front office
I wanted to bring this to your attention because we have already had some students who have vandalized the restroom. We are giving severe consequences to those choosing to participate so we wanted to make sure that you knew so that you could have a conversation with your student. Administration did go class to class and make sure that students knew what the consequences would be and that some of these are against the law and could get them in more trouble than just school consequences.
We need your help, please make sure they understand how serious it is.
Thank you for your help in keeping our school safe, clean and positive.

Dr. Scribner went over the proposals that will be voted on during the November 2nd election. The bond recognizes Middle Schools and that they are in desperate need to get some love and attention. Please take time to look over the upgrades that will be made to Daggett Middle specifically. https://www.fwisd.org/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=65760&dataid=86332&FileName=SchoolBySchool-Daggett.pdf

Data Corner
Hello, parents and partners! This is Ms. Salinas, your child's testing coordinator. We concluded Beginning of Year (BOY) MAP testing. Teachers are utilizing the student's data to drive instruction. We will take the Middle of Year MAP test in January to track growth. Our upcoming tests for the month of October are for 8th grade only. All 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT 8/9 test October 13th. The purpose of this test is to identify areas to focus on to stay on track for college and career success. English I students will also be taking their first Benchmark between Oct 19th-21st. How can you help your child? Make sure they rest well the night before exams and eat a great breakfast. Ensure they are completing assignments (check Focus) and encourage them to ask for help when they need it. Please visit my Google Site for more information on testing. PSAT and MAP resources are on their as well.

Suicide Awareness for Staff, Parents and Students
Hello Daggett family! This past week Fort Worth ISD observed a week of suicide prevention with a week of activities, conversation, and education with the purpose of reducing stigma of mental illness and educating everyone about the warning signs of someone at risk for suicide. Everyone matters and is welcome in the community and at Daggett, the future is bright!
What to say if someone you know is thinking about suicide?
Remain calm and rational. People of all ages, races, faiths, cultures, and income levels who are depressed or have trouble coping with feelings may consider suicide if they don’t have other coping skills. People who are popular, well-connected, and even those who are less well-off die by suicide. It is important to know that suicidal behavior knows no boundaries. LISTEN without judgement. If you hear something concerning, ask for more information by saying, “Tell me more. . .”
Other ideas are:
- I’m sorry.
- I didn’t know you were hurting so much.
- We are going to get help.
- Thank you for sharing.
- I love you and cannot imagine my life without you.
- Trust that you are going to be okay.
- I will make sure you get the help you need.
- Please let me know what you need and how you feel.
- I will do my part to make sure we are all healthy again.
- We can get through anything together.
- You are not alone.
- Please keep sharing how you feel.
- You are brave and capable; you will get the help you need to be
- even stronger.
Ms. Wesley and I can help make a referral if your student needs counseling, as well. Let us know how we can help!
