A December to Remember

Season's Greetings,

This month is truly a December to Remember. We have celebrated Mrs. Speelman being selected for the Chesapeake Public Schools 2023 High School Teacher of the Year. Our student ambassadors were honored to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Chesapeake Rotary Christmas Parade and over 40 students and 20 faculty marched through the heart of Great Bridge and represented CCC. Each day we have celebrated with a holiday theme and look forward to class parties December 20th. What a way to end 2022!

As we come to the end of the year, I wanted to personally thank you for all your support. When I arrived on campus last year, I was so excited to be joining the CCC family. I can confirm that I have already received my holiday gift, being the principal of CCC. I hope that you also receive a gift that is as special to you.

One of the highlights of the holiday season is the extra time we have to spend time with our loved ones and celebrate the meaning of family and friends. Now, more than ever, make time for all those you hold dear to you. I wish all of you a peaceful holiday, not only now but throughout the year.

Student Spotlight

Meet Garth VanSyckle, Welding Student

Garth is a senior at Great Bridge High School and a second year Dual Enrollment Welding student. Garth’s cooperative work experience is at Collins Machine Works and upon graduation he wants to continue to full-time employment in their apprentice program. Garth’s employer, Mr. Twine, shares that Garth is a great worker, dependable and trustworthy. His welding instructor, Mr. Sommers, adds that Garth is an out of the box thinker. He has an engineer’s mind and can work through processes in his head before starting. Garth is also a tinkerer and often takes “trash” and turns it into “treasurers”. He is determined and has a can-do attitude.

Cyclones Give Back!

CCC has partnered with Buffalow Family and Friends to support families in Chesapeake through their charitable works. During the month of November, we held a can food drive and over 2,100 food items and waters were collected from Cyclones. Also, our Cosmetology students offer their services at the Buffalow Family and Friends Community Salon two Saturdays a month. Community Partners

Hackworth

Thank you to our community partner, Hackworth, for their financial investment in our school. Check out their work on our front door, around our main office, picture backdrop, and our program yard signs. Their support has assisted in the branding of the building and increased school recognition and school spirit.

Hackworth was founded in 1991 when it started out printing blue prints and technical documents. Today, they are a full fledged printing, graphics and wide format technology solutions organization, all thanks to the inspiring leadership of Dorothy and Charlie Hackworth and their son, Charles.

Hackworth is a State-Certified, Small Business (SWaM: Small, Women-owned, and Minority-owned Business) in Chesapeake, Virginia that provides a wide range of printing and marketing services, wide format digital imaging and printing systems and supplies, and document management solutions. Although the nature of our core business has somewhat changed over the last two decades, we continue to be committed to provide excellence in our business solutions, and to the communities and families of those with whom we share mutually beneficial partnerships. To find out more about Hackworth, click here.

Be Smart - Be Safe

It takes the collective effort of all of us to ensure that we all remain safe. One of the most effective ways to do that is to report anything that could affect the safety of our students and staff. Many threats are dealt with before they can come to fruition because of individuals willing to report directly to a trusted adult. That is strongly encouraged. We also encourage families to have discussions with their children about the seriousness of and consequences for these actions.

There are other ways that these safety concerns can be reported. CPS offers QuickTip, a way to anonymously report any safety concerns. The icon can be found on our webpages. The CrimeLine icon is also available on our webpages and that platform can be used to report concerns directly to the police department. You will also see the K-12 “Let’s Talk” icon on the CPS homepage and on many other CPS webpages. Clicking that will take you to another platform for registering concerns and asking questions. Non-pressing messages can be left here and they will be addressed by appropriate administrators. More information can be found on the CPS website. Of course, in any emergency situation, please call 911.
