Voices - Resilience Through the Arts

Please join AHS and CSHS students for a very special, one-time event at Brodniak Hall on Friday, April 27, 7 p.m.

is a student-sponsored, student-created multimedia performance in the arts showcasing real experience and resilience in the lives of Anacortes teens.

VOICES celebrates authentic student stories expressed through music, film, dance, drama, spoken word, visual arts and more. For anyone interested in supporting and celebrating our youth, this is the event of the year to attend.

Kaleidoscope Play and Learn Group - March 8 - June 7

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn© groups help families prepare their young children (birth to age 5) for success in school and life. This program, based on scientific evidence, reaches families in their neighborhoods at weekly, facilitated playgroups.

Ready to Learn Fair Clothing Drive

Are you cleaning out your student's closet in anticipation of summer? Help every child in our community begin the coming school year with pride by saving your best for the Ready to Learn Fair Citywide Clothing Drive!

Donation bins will be in place the week of May 14 -18 at each school and at several locations throughout the community. Clean, stylish, gently used or new items in all sizes for children and teens are greatly needed! For more information, please contact Keiko McCracken,

Celebrate National Foster Care Month and Kinship Caregiver Day

Each year in May, Children’s Administration and the Seattle Mariners plan Washington’s celebration of National Foster Care Month and Kinship Caregiver Day. 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the We Are Family event, celebrated at the Mariners’ Safeco Field in Seattle. We Are Family helps us say “Thank You” to foster parents and kinship caregivers, along with the agencies and community partners who support and serve children in foster care across the state.

We Are Family this year will be held on Sunday, May 20th at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Tickets must be purchased on-line at the Mariners website: Use the promo code: WeAreFamily Everyone who purchases a ticket under We Are Family will receive a Seattle Mariners beanie.

These special tickets are not available at the gate and the final day for purchase is: Friday, May 18, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.

If your family would like to take in a major league baseball game, this is a wonderful opportunity join us and help celebrate Foster Care Month in Washington! Our foster care recruitment partners, Olive Crest’s Fostering Together program and Eastern Washington University’s Fostering Washington program, along with other private agencies will be there sharing information about Washington’s need for more foster parents all across the state.

Looking to stay fit and earn money? Anacortes Lacrosse Club is recruiting high school students and adults to become lacrosse officials!! Anacortes Parks & Recreation Youth Track and Field Program

Put on those running shoes, warm-up your throwing arm, and get ready to have some fun. Boys and girls in grades 1st-6th are eligible to participate in a fun and exciting program. Kids will have the opportunity to learn the basic FUNdamentals of sprinting, mid-distance and distance running, long jump, high jump, shot-put, discus, and safety javelin. Participants will also have the opportunity to test their skills in an organized track meet on the last day of the program, and ribbons will be handed out to all competitors. The details are as follows:

New Girl Scouts Troops Forming in Anacortes: Leaders Needed for Daisy and Brownie troops! More Girls Welcome!

Are you passionate about supporting girls’ leadership development? Are you organized, dedicated, and a clear communicator? Girl Scouts needs YOU to co-lead a troop in Anacortes! We have a group of four girls in K-3rd grades hoping to form a new troop near Fidalgo Elementary. It takes 5 girls and 2 adult leaders to form a troop, so all we need is one more girl and two adults, and this troop will be ready to go! Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls in grades K-12, offering programs from coast-to-coast and across the globe. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Through outdoor exploration, community service, civic engagement, and activities focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), girls develop a positive sense of self, say “yes” to new experiences and adventures, and create lasting friendships by joining a worldwide community of sisters. Open House at Quaker Cove - April 21, 10 am - 2 pm

Come join us for a fun day at Quaker Cove! Our camp has been here since 1930, and we'd like to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves and get to know more of you! Take a tour of the camp, have a hotdog and a s'more on us. Enter our raffle to win a free week for your child at our day camp in August or win other prizes! Kids can get a free balloon and have their face painted too. You can also explore our beach or take a walk in our forest. Our staff and board members will be on hand to show you around and answer your questions.

Day Camp at Quaker Cove - Week 1: July 30 - August 30; Week 2: August 6 - 10

Day Camp is for kids entering grades 1st - 6th. Campers will investigate and learn about plants, animals, and nature. We will take them into the forest, onto the beach, out to our vegetable garden, and under the open air for sky gazing. Registration is open now at

Salish Sea Spring Expeditions

Salvation Army - currently enrolling students for their Troops and Music Programs. The Salvation Army Troops programs offer age appropriate Christian youth groups that foster kids potential and leadership abilities through a variety of experiences including: music, games, crafts, interactive activities and service projects. The Troops programs are held each Wednesday from 4:30-6:15 pm at The Salvation Army, 3001 R. Ave. and include a free dinner. Music enrichment courses are also available and include: Beginner Band, Piano, Timbrels, Beginner Guitar and Singing Company. Enrollment is free.

Secret Harbor - Foster Parent Info

Ocean STEM -- After School- Mondays, April 16- May 21 from 3:45 pm to 5:15 pm at Anacortes Middle School. Take ocean technology to a new level with underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and discover the vast world beneath the ocean. Design and construct an ROV. The cost is $99 for six sessions. Kids Night Out @ Western, Friday, April 20 - 6:00 – 8:45 p.m. at Shannon Point Marine Center. Enjoy a well deserved date night while your kids have a fun-filled evening at the Shannon Point Marine Center.
