Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel

The Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel or Glaucomys sabrinus coloratus is an endangered species here in North Carolina. These squirrels are located on mountain peaks in western North Carolina. They are also located on mountain peaks in southwest Virginia and eastern Tennessee.
The Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel is endangered because of human impacts such as habitat destruction and fragmentation, introduction of exotic pests, pollution, and recreational and residential development.
