Usually found near or around the northeast Cape Fear River watershed in Pender & Onslow county.

-Grows in sandy soils overlying coquina limestone deposits, where soil pH is unusually high

Why in danger

Golden Sedge are under threat by habitat alterations. These would include fire suppression, conversion of its limited habitat for residential, commercial, or industrial uses, highway & utility expansion, right-of-way management of herbicides, & wetland drainage associated with silviculture & agricultural uses.

What's being done to protect it

For this plant's recovering & regrowth, it has been issued many acres of land (>189 as of 2010)
