The Raider Lead
January 2023 Edition

Welcome to "The Raider Lead" Newsletter
A Message from the Principal
Hello, Raider Family,
Welcome to the January edition of the Raider Lead school newsletter! We are excited to share our learning and leadership with you and prepare you for our big rocks this month.
We will be studying Habit 6: Synergize. This is the habit of creative cooperation. To put it simply, synergy means “two heads are better than one.” It is teamwork, open-mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to old problems. You can learn more about Habit 6 below by exploring our Home Habit Huddle activity with your family.
The month ahead brings more basketball, academic challenge, our school spelling bee, and a week of recognition for Montessori. All of our monthly activities are listed below. Make sure you review the BIG ROCKS calendar below for all the details!
Let's practice habit 6 this month as we partner together to be amazing Raiders!
Inspiring life-ready leaders!

Raider RN Report
Happy New Year, Raiders!
As we start a new year we are excited about new services we will be offering to help us take care of our students. First, we will be getting the combination swab for COVID and Flu A/B. This will work the same way our COVID testing did, but now one swab will test for both COVID and FLU. Just like before we will have to have consents signed. I have attached the new consent form below. You can complete it and email it back to me at mfaulkenberry@fsd2.org.
Next, will be Telehealth thru McLeod Hospital. We will be able to do a visit with a provider for simple complaints here in the nurse's office just like if you walked into an Urgent Care. We have special equipment that will allow for the provider to see your child, listen to their lung sounds, look into their ears and look at their throats. We are very excited about this and hope this will help decrease stress of having a sick child all while getting them well and back to school sooner. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please complete the attached forms and email it back to me at mfaulkenberry@fsd2.org. We will never have your child seen without notifying you first, and there is the option for you to be present in person or via a virtual link. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at any time. We are hoping for this to go live at the end of January or the first of February.
While I have your attention reading this letter I also would like to remind you of a few things that come up during this time of year.
If your child is sick please keep them home. They must be fever free for 24hrs without fever reducing medication before returning to school
During the next couple of months students will be wearing coats and hats to school. Remind your child not to wear other students' hats or coats. This is an ideal way to transfer head lice from student to student. Check your child’s head regularly and if you find head lice please let us know. If you find head lice you need to treat your child’s hair with an OTC head lice shampoo and attach the box top with a note when your child returns to school. I have attached below a head lice 101 information sheet with more information.
Please make sure your child (if in 4k,5k or 1st grade) has a change of clothes in their bookbag and check it daily to make sure if they are soiled they are replaced. Our supply of extra shorts and pants is running low.
Thank you for allowing us to take care of your child. Please feel free to contact one of us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely your school Nurses,

Monthly Average for Absences in December
Our yearly average for absences was 9% for 2021-2022. We need to significantly reduce this percentage for the 2022-2023 school year. Research shows that students who are chronically absent from school perform much lower academically than their peers. Student attendance is critically important to student academic achievement. Please make every effort to ensure that your student(s) are at school on time each day ready to learn!
In December, our average for absences was 8%. There was a decrease from November! Let's try to continue to move this number down in January!
