Staff Edition

Feb. 6th, 2014

I want to thank those of you who participated in the Monday evening District Improvement Stakeholder Workshop and/or the Town Hall Meeting. Both events were very important for our district and were well attended by district employees. Please know that your attendance was noted and greatly appreciated by the many parents, board members, administration and facilitators. The work we did together will result in the culmination of several possible district mission statements. These drafts will be brought to the stakeholder group on March 3rd at 5:00 p.m. for consideration and further input. This process is the first big step toward AdvancEd District Accreditation. If you couldn't be present this time but want to participate next time you are very welcome to join us. I am including the link to the "three little words" activity that concluded our work session Monday night. If you would like to contribute to this work, please feel free to click on the link and add three words you feel are central to our district's mission. These entries are all going to be compiled into a visual depiction of our thinking through wordle. I'll share the input we've received to this point in the wordle below. Here is the link for those who would like to add their "three little words". http://answergarden.ch/view/81624

Be Informed About the Feb. 25th Bond Initiative

This bond is very important to our school district. I've embedded a video of the pictorial highlights of the targeted bond projects for you to see. I know it is not comprehensive of all the proposed projects, but it highlights the larger ones. The key to this bond proposal is to ensure that we are providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff. If this bond passes, it will free up general fund dollars to do more work in the classrooms and with programming. Right now we are paying astronomical repair fees on the HS Boiler and on the phone systems that would result in cost avoidance of a significant dollar amount should we be able to replace them. Additionally, the energy conservation savings is substantial. Please be informed and if you live in the district or have friends or family who live in the district please encourage them to vote. Rosa Gooch and Elaine Beckelic are chairing the vote yes committee and are very welcoming of any assistance from staff. Please see them if you would like to be involved with that campaign. It is separate from the district's informational campaign.

The second Mentor-Mentee meeting is next Tuesday, February 11th. Please remember to bring your 5D+ materials and your Teach Like a Champion Book. Between now and then try to jot down your experience with implementing one of the strategies in the book so you can share it with your peers.
