GLOW GAZETTE
WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19, 2024
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
GLOW Students & Families,
We hope our students are enjoying a nice long weekend!
Last Friday we held our 7th Annual "Cool Women Hot Jobs" (CWHJ) Event at GLOW. This is a highly anticipated tradition at GLOW, organized by our College Access Team, and this year we welcomed more than 100 female professionals from the southeast.
When we communicate in our school's vision that students "...will succeed in life," we are working to prepare them for success in whatever career they decide to pursue. In that work, we often empower our students to dream BIG for their futures, but we also understand that can also be overwhelming. Many of the jobs our students may wish to pursue are unknown to them, so it is through this event that we seek to provide them some tangibles, in terms of the kinds of careers other women in our region have chosen to pursue. This event is also a reminder to our students and staff of the support our community has for our vision at GLOW.
On Friday, students spent the morning in their Leadership Advisory classes where they met with local professionals who shared information about their chosen career fields. Through this event we have broadened our students' knowledge base of the career options available for each of them.
Not only is this a favorite event for students and staff at GLOW, but it is something professionals in our community look forward to as well. When I ran into a former colleague at CWHJ on Friday, I told her how glad I was that she was able to join us for the event this year. She replied, "I was so excited to get the invitation! Last year I was so jealous when I saw the pictures other professionals were posting from their experience at GLOW and in participating in this event. I hope you'll invite me back next year!"
While our visitors enjoy sharing their careers, their desire to participate in this annual event is because of the positive interactions they have with our students. I'm so proud of our students active engagement in these conversations and the positive impressions they make that extend far beyond the walls of our school.
All of this to say, our students are filled with limitless potential. I'm so grateful for the commitment of our staff and the community's engagement in this work to help our students realize all that is possible for each of them.
Wishing you all a great week ahead!
Kate B. Tayloe
Principal

Class of 2024 - Scholarship Opportunity
Beacon Education is driven by the belief that a child’s zip code should not determine their destiny. By ensuring equitable access to high quality education, we empower children and their families to close and even reverse the achievement and opportunity gaps.
Beacon Education has established a fund to provide scholarship money to assist our graduating seniors with the transition from high school to college. This gap funding is intended to provide financial resources for students with demonstrated financial need until their institutional financial aid becomes available at their enrolling institution.
Seniors, please check Canvas for additional information. All Beacon Education Scholarship Applications are due to Alexia Shank by 3:15 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024.
