AHES Panther News
2021 Connection: October 15, 2021
Anaheim Hills Elementary School
Panther Families,
On Wednesday our campus participated in National Stop Bullying Day. Students wore orange, and in the classroom, their teacher took them through anti-bullying lessons developed by our school counselor. We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for students, staff, and families at AHES.
This Friday, we had our first Panther PRIDE popsicle day. It was fun to see the students exchange their PRIDE tickets for popsicles provided by our AHES PTA. If your student didn't have an opportunity to exchange 25 pride tickets for a popsicle, they will have another one this month, and then two times each future month.
Please see below for this week's updates. Have a great weekend!
Best,
Mrs. Van Wilgen Moore
Principal

School Lunch & Food Shortages - A Note from OUSD Nutritional Services
As most of you have already heard on the news, the nation is experiencing extreme supply chain disruptions. The school nutrition industry has been particularly hard hit and Orange USD is no exception. We are placing food orders 1-2 months in advance and when the delivery truck arrives at our loading dock half of the order is missing with little to no advance notification.
Most weeks we are scrambling to find replacement entrées for at least a couple of days. We are doing our best to evenly distribute menued entrées across all of our schools. Unfortunately, we are having to rely on the “Menu Subject to Change” disclaimer more than ever this year. We truly apologize for the inconvenience to all of you, our OUSD families, and especially our students.
On a positive note, we are serving nearly 3,000 additional lunches and just over 2,000 additional breakfasts per day when compared to pre-pandemic meal participation. The first few weeks of school were particularly challenging to forecast meal counts because we were in unchartered territory with universal free meals and all students back in the classroom 5 days per week with no modified schedules. Fortunately, we now have a much better grasp on how much food to forecast for daily meal service.

Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this shortage.

Reflections - I Will Change the World By
The search for fabulous Panther Artists is underway! REFLECTIONS, a nationally sponsored PTA Arts competition wants to see your talent in Literature, Dance, Visual Arts, Film, and/or Photography.
The submission Deadline for our students is October 20. You can submit as many art pieces as you like! Make sure you relate your art to the theme this year, which is “I will change the world by…”
There will be prizes for all entries and awards given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners! All art submitted will be judged by local experts in that category. For our Panthers that win first place, your art will represent our school, competing with other wonders in our district!
The main PTA page that includes the entry form and detailed descriptions for each category are listed here:
