Mustang Round-Up Weekly Update
January 25, 2021 Update
Principal's Message
Cheyenne Families,
We have had many questions recently regarding attendance. Here are the district policies for attendance 4200 and 4205R. Attendance is still important whether you are Virtual Edmond or attending Blended Learning or have a COVID related absence. We have had some technical changes with our attendance program this year but all of those have been cleared up.
Middle Schools send automated emails to our families when students miss 4-7--10 days of a class or a whole day of classes. Student absences can accumulate through tardies to class, which add up to absences, or being checked out for a class period, or just missing a whole day of school. These emails are to bring awareness to days missed as they add up quickly. and to make sure we are receiving any medical notes or phone calls regarding your child's absences. The federal/state guidelines for attendance are that students shouldn't miss more than 18 days in a school year. We want to be sure we have all the appropriate documentation and details for attendance each 9weeks.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to our attendance secretary, Rachel Gayken, and/or your grade level counselor if you have specific questions regarding your child's absences. If we assess your child's attendance and believe their attendance is in violation of the district attendance policy or the Oklahoma statutes you will receive a phone call and notification of an attendance meeting with the administration.
Please be sure to check your child's attendance weekly, especially on Tuesdays when it should be accurately reported from the week before. It is important to turn in doctor's notes and to call our office if your child is absent within 5 days of the absence.
Thank you for helping us with keeping attendance accurate!
Thank you for all the well wishes! Our family is getting back to our normal schedule a little at a time. Recovery is a little longer for myself and my husband but we are taking it day by day and returning to our regular work schedules as much as possible.
Stay safe and well!

Our 8th graders are currently participating in Alcohol Prevention through Advisory.
Read this article from Partnership to End Addiction about taking healthy risks. Here is a quote from the article that might pique your interest.
"Teenagers engage in risk-taking behaviors to find out who they are, not necessarily to be rebellious or intentionally disobey their parents. Most parents are terrified at the thought of their teenagers taking risks, but that’s because many parents think of teen risk-taking as binge drinking, using drugs, vaping or other potentially dangerous behaviors. But risk-taking is not always a negative thing, and healthy risk taking can actually build confidence and help strengthen leadership skills among teens."
