Using Pear Deck for Teacher Training
Does your district have busy teachers who would like to learn about technology but do not have the time for training? Pear Deck could provide one option. Heartland's Instructional Technology Team is piloting the development of using Pear Deck in the self-paced mode to offer professional learning that teachers could access quickly and easily as their schedules permit. Click here to sample the experience of a training in Student Mode.
If you are interested in learning more about Pear Deck for professional learning, or if you would like to learn more about use in classrooms, do not hesitate to reach out to your Instructional Technology Consultant. We would love to work with you to develop the training you need.
Computer Science PD Incentive Fund
I’m excited to announce that the application process for the Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund (CSPDIF) is now open through Nov. 9. Eligible Iowa school districts and accredited nonpublic schools may apply for funding aimed at building the computer science teacher workforce.
Application support materials are available on our website to help guide schools and districts through the planning and application processes. Please note, there are changes to the 2020-21 application.
Applications for funding must demonstrate how schools will prepare K-12 educators to teach computer science and expand high-quality computer science instruction based on Iowa’s computer science standards adopted by the State Board of Education.
The CSPDIF was created through 2017 legislation that encourages computer science in every school in Iowa. It is funded through a state appropriation as well as with dollars from a 2007 settlement of an Iowa class-action lawsuit filed against Microsoft Corp.
Applications should be submitted through IowaGrants. For more information on the CSPDIF, contact Wren Hoffman from our Bureau of Leading, Teaching, Learning Services, at wren.hoffman@iowa.gov.
If you are interested in participating in the Statewide Comp Sci Grant please complete this survey by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28th. Your response will:
provide us the current state of computer science planning and instruction in your district
allow us to assist districts with developing and implementing K-12 computer science instruction plans
allow us to plan meaningful, K-12 computer science professional development
allow you to express interest in participating in a grant opportunity
