The Tiger Times
The Monthly Franklin Family Newsletter - November 2021
Happy November! And wishing all of you who celebrate today a meaningful Dia de los Muertos.
This past month it has been so awesome to see our students taking on our "Brain Food Campaign" and celebrating delicious, healthy foods! Check out photos below of Franklin students enjoying the Tomato Taste-Test and sharing their feelings about tomatoes with a "Tried It," "Liked It," or "Loved It" vote. Thank you to all of you for making sure that your children bring healthy food in their lunches and say goodbye to junk food while at school - we appreciate your partnership on this!
We ended the month of October with a wonderful Fall Fest. Students had a lot of fun playing together, enjoying special snacks, and celebrating with their costumes. Check out the photos from Fall Fest below!
November is a month full of intense learning for students. We're excited to see all the academic growth that's happening, all the friendships that are building, and all the leadership students are exploring. At the end of the month you will receive your child's report card and have a chance to monitor their progress and learn more from your child's teacher.
We hope you are all staying healthy and well, and we thank you for all you do for your children!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us by emailing Franklin@ousd.org.
Our best,
Ms. Lai & Ms. Sufrin

COVID Pooled Testing:
At Franklin, we seek to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, families and the greater community. To support those goals, we have partnered with Concentric by Ginkgo to provide pooled classroom testing for all students. This program is free of charge.
You might be wondering - what is pooled testing and why is it being offered at Franklin?
- Pooled testing is more efficient. Pooled testing is a preventative measure that OUSD is implementing at Elementary school sites and will be done weekly every Tuesday beginning at Franklin in October.
- Twenty-five students can be tested at once, with all students in a class swabbing their noses and placing their swabs in a single tub. The samples in that tube are then run as a single sample, using one test. This allows for quicker results. If a positive in a pool is detected, then we’ll immediately follow up with individual tests to determine who is positive.
- Testers will come Tuesdays and return Thursdays to follow up with the individual testing to identify who was positive.
We are requesting each family to participate in this program to help protect the health and safety of our entire school community.
Please sign the consent request that was sent home or you can go to this link, https://testcenter.concentricbyginkgo.com/minor-consent/ to register and sign the consent electronically. Only students with completed consent forms are able to participate in testing. If you do not want your family to participate, your student will not be included in the testing program. Though, we truly hope you do!
If you have any questions about pooled Covid testing at Franklin, please reach out to our school Safety Lead, Ryann Walker, at Ryann.walker@ousd.org.
