7 MINDSETS - LIVE TO GIVE
Attitude of Gratitude
With a gratitude mindset, you focus on the infinite opportunities available in all areas of your life. When you are grateful, you focus on the positive things more than the negative things. This focus then attracts more positive things to you. "I believe that every single event in life that happens is an opportunity to choose love over fear." ~Oprah Winfrey
Based on the premise that every child is extraordinary, the 7 Mindsets program can positively impact the culture in your home by addressing social and emotional issues and facilitating character development.
Each quarter we will be discussing an important Mind Set adopted from the 7 Mindsets SEL curriculum. Visit https://7mindsets.com/ to learn more.
This quarter's Mindset is "Attitude of Gratitude"

Birthday Resource for families!
We have a fantastic resource to assist with birthdays for foster youth. We have had several families use this resource and they cannot say enough about how helpful it was with giving their foster youth a fantastic birthday. If you are interested in providing your foster youth with a great birthday and want a helpful resource, please see the following steps below:
Going to the website and completing the birthday wish list for the youth (at least one week advance notice is appreciated, one months’ notice is preferred). This can be done in advance as well.
Communicate with a staff at Foster Fete to locate a delivery location and delivery details (homes in all locations can participate)
Birthday celebrations will consist of: decorations, plates, a cake from a local bakery, gifts according to the completed wish list.
All that will be asked for is the first name of the youth and the age (this information is used for internal logistics and decorations)
Participation in this wonderful resource is optional but all A New World foster homes may
use these resources for their foster youth.
Any questions on this, please contact Renee at Foster Fete: renee@fosterfete.com

TheresaLearning to Give
Waterford received a grant to provide a FREE kindergarten readiness program for children born between 8/1/17-7/31/18. The funding for CO is directed toward low-income/rural families without access to pre-k services or families that choose to educate at home. We're excited to announce the launch of a statewide database of foster care resources for foster families, former kids in care, and those looking to get involved through volunteering or donating. Learn more...
This database was created by Just As Special, a local organization focused on giving kids in foster care a better tomorrow, in partnership with Cobbled Streets.
How This Database Makes a Difference
- Simplifies finding mental and physical health options for kids in care by listing only Medicaid-accepting providers and noting trauma-informed options
- Connects foster parents to free, virtual therapy to avoid placement disruption and a kid having to move homes
- Helps former kids in care secure employment or housing to more successfully transition into adulthood
- And much more!
Inclusive Focus
This resource database is a reflection of Just As Special's mission to honor and celebrate the diversity and lived experiences of the foster care community.
Just As Special does its best to verify that listed resources are always inclusive — and trauma-informed whenever possible.
Just As Special takes community feedback seriously and has made it possible to leave reviews of listed resources as well as submit resources for consideration so this database is ever-evolving.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Jacqualine Maurello, Placement Worker
PROVIDERS SPOTLIGHT
How long have you been at A New World? I have been at ANWCPA for 5 months now.
What do you love most about your job? What I live most about my job is being able to care for my kids and work at the same time. I also love being able to find homes for the kids in foster care.
What makes a day great? To me what makes a great day is cool weather about 45-65 degrees. And being around the ones I love and that love and support me and challenge me to be better than yesterday.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a foster parent? For someone wanting to be a foster parent, they need to understand that even though you raised successful children, your parenting style needs to be altered with extra love an open mind, and more understanding. The kids in care come with a lot of luggage and they need a safe loving place to slowly unpack.
What does your ideal weekend look like? My ideal weekend is cooler temperatures and hosting friends for a lunch, sledding with my kids, nieces and nephews, and/or watching football
