MUSIC PERFORMANCES @ THE COUNTRY FAIR (SEES)
SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM MRS. INES
Your child has been invited to perform at the Country Fair on Saturday, May 13th. Over the past month, each grade level at DPS has learned one song from the Sound of Music, and they are invited to join their grade level from SEES at the fair on the stage to perform together. This is an optional performance that your child is not required to attend, but we really encourage them to come if they can and participate in this awesome event. Please have students arrive at the stage at least 5 minutes prior to the performance time. They can wear whatever they would like. Mrs. Thomas, the SEES music teacher, will be directing the groups. The times for each grade level are as follows.
5th: 11:15
4th: 11:30
3rd: 11:45
2nd: 12:00
1st: 12:15
K/TK: 12:30
Hw and Weekly Reflections
- While there is no homework sent home each night, students are expected to read every night for at least 30 minutes.
- Additionally students can also be working on any online program at home for additional practice: Dreambox, Tenmarks, and Lexia
Weekly Reflections:
- Students have completed their weekly reflections digitally on their google drive.
- Please have your child log in to their google drive at home to access their reflection for the week where you will then need to type your name in the parent signature box (in a different font) and write one thing you learned about what your child did this week at school.
- Let me know if you have any questions about this.
3rd Grade State Testing
- Students will be testing the week of May 15. There are practice tests online that students can do at home for extra practice. We will also be spending some time in class practicing as well. Please click here for the directions of how to access these practice tests at home and other important information regarding testing week.
- Test taking strategies: relax, be confident, read the questions first, read the passage, eliminate what is wrong, and double check your work. Students are applying these testing strategies as they read fiction and nonfiction passages. Then, they answer questions related to what they've read.
Updated Spirit Day Calendar
What's Happening in the Classroom??
- Innovation-Block #3: Students will begin their last unit of Engineering. Students will begin to go through the engineering design process for their invention for the scholastic inventor contest. Students will also participate in multiple STEM challenges over the course of the four week block.
- Language Arts- Students will review and practice skills they have been learning over the course of the year. Additionally, students will be participating in literature circles where they will be reading a book with a group of students and will have different roles in analyzing the book they are reading.
- Math -Click here for the Unit 5 Parent Letter. This week in math, students will be reviewing perimeter, area, geometry, and elapsed time to prepare for their Unit 5 assessment.
- Writing - Students will continue to practice the three types of writing: Narrative, informational, and opinion. It is encouraged for students to practice writing at home as often as they can.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the word by using it in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing. Students will also use context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words.
- 7 Habits - Habit 6: Synergize. Can your student sing our school 7 habits song: All the 7 habits? "Habit 6, Synergize. I said synergize. Together is always good." Check out the DPS Spring Leader in Me Newsletter to see some highlights of our school in action.
