Sophocles
Sophocles is an ancient Greek tragedian whose plays have survived. He was the writer of many plays , including Oedipus the King.
Laius
Laius was the great grandson of Cadmus , had a son but gave him away after being told that his son would kill him. His son was later adopted and was named Oedipus. Laius is later killed outside Thebes
Jocasta
Jocasta was the wife of Laius. She had a son with Laius which is Oedipus. When Oedipus solves the riddle , he receives Joccasta as a reward. She then gets married with Oedipus and has two daughters with him and two sons.
King Polybus & Queen Merope
King Polybus and Queen Merope were the adoptive parents of Oedipus.
Oedipus
Oedipus was the one who solved the riddle that the sphinx was asking the people of Thebes. He was able to solve the riddle and as reward he got his mother. He then married her and has two daughters and two sons. Oedipus doesn't not know that he was the one who murdered his father Laius.
Sphinx
A Sphinx is a winged monster , it has a head of a women and the body of a lion. She kills anyone who fails to answer her riddle. By surprise out of all the people in Thebes , Oedipus answers her riddle and then she kills her self.
Antigone and Ismene
Antigone and Ismene are the daughters of Jocasta and his son Oedipus .
Eteocles and Polynices
Eteocles and Polynices are the sons of Jocasta and his son Oedipus.
Creon
Creon is Oedipus brother in law. He is sent to the oracle of Apollo to ask how to fix all the bad situation that is going on in Thebes. He is told that they have to find Laius murder .and kill him but Oedipus doesn't know that its himself that murdered Laius.

Thebes is a city of ancient Greece , in Boeotia : a rival of ancient Athens. It reached it power in the fourth century BC but was destroyed by Alexander in 336.
Corinth
Corinth is an ancient city in Greece , on the Isthmus of Corinth : one of the wealthiest and most powerful of the ancient Greek cities.
Oracle of Apollo
The most famous oracle in Greece , it is the location of a temple of Apollo. Also known as the oracle of Delphi. People would go to the Oracle of Apollo to ask for her advice , but the messages where often difficult to understand
