The Raptor Report
January 2021
From the Principal
Welcome back to all students, parents, guardians and staff! Welcome to 2021! I believe this will be a year of great opportunity and growth for Rolling Hills. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school. Please remember to send boots, snow pants, hats, gloves, and warm coats for your children to go outside during recess. It is extremely important for them to get outside, burn off some excess energy, take a mask break, and get fresh air.
We continue to prepare our students for 21st century skills during Library time with the addition of Project Lead the Way curriculum. The goal of STEM is to pique students’ interest so they want to pursue these areas of study when they get older not because they have to but because they want to. Elementary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) includes structured inquiry-based and real world problem-based learning opportunities that connect all four disciplines together in the same learning opportunity rather than teaching them in individual silos like other traditional elementary curriculum. Students will continue to experience lessons in coding and robotics sprinkled during Library time throughout the year.
I want you all to know, the staff and I are committed to working hard to create the best learning opportunities for your children whether it is face to face or through virtual instruction. We will continue to build strong, positive relationships with the students and work to sustain them on a daily basis. Please know that we continue to work with all students on being respectful of each other and to ensure we have a safe environment on the bus, in the classroom, and on the playground. Encourage your children to seek out a trusted adult rather than taking matters in to their own hands. Physical aggression is never okay at school and it is what many children struggle with the most. Maintaining this positive union will allow both students and teachers to thrive in the educational environment. Thanks for all you do to continue to support the students and staff of Rolling Hills. Have a great, happy and healthy 2021.
Dr. Ron Schlicht, Principal

PBIS Spotlight - January 2021
Our students at Rolling Hills have continued to demonstrate The Raptor Way throughout the month of December. This month Dr. Schlicht talked about KINDNESS on the morning announcements. He gave the kids a lot of great ideas of ways to show random acts of kindness both in and out of school. Sprinkle kindness everywhere!
Our Raptor Way Golden Award Winners will remain confidential this month, as our announcement video for the students has not been created yet. Next month you’ll find out our December winners.
We are always looking for donations of items for the ROAR store, as well as items to play with at recess. Please contact Ms. Napierala (2N) if you, or your business, may have items you think the students would be interested in.
From Student Council - January 2021
To spread seasonal wishes and kindness, our December “Twelve Days of Holiday Cheer” incorporated activities and spirit-wear days to celebrate the excitement of the season and give us pause for reflection of how joyous this time of year can be!
Heart-felt thanks to all Rolling Hills’ students, staff, and families for sharing the warmth of the holiday spirit. On Saturday, December 5th, Student Council members helped shop for twenty-one children, ages three months to sixteen-years from twelve families, which Rolling Hills adopted through the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County. Max Migazzi, Aveya Ziegler, Madeline & Sophia Silkworth, Emily Simons, Dahlia Welsch, Blake Brasch-Shea, Emma Wendt, and Jazzy & Nayeli Falk, along with Mrs. Wendt, Mrs. Welsch, Mrs. Migazzi, Mrs. Ziegler, Mrs. Silkworth, Mrs. Simons, Mrs. Barton, Ms. Johnsen, Ms. Shea, Mr. Brasch, and Mrs. Falk traveled to the Waukesha Target on Sunset Drive to do the shopping. Upon our return from shopping, we wrapped the mountain of gifts and enjoyed Jimmy Johns’ sub sandwiches, chips, holiday cookies and juice boxes. This year Rolling Hills’ students, families, and staff raised a fantastic $3,648.82 via our “Adopt-A-Family” campaign. That amount enabled us to purchase clothing and toys for the children as well as Pick N Save gift cards for each family to make their holidays merry. Additionally, oodles of thanks go to the Target Store for giving us a $50.00 donation plus a 10% discount on all of these purchases. The holidays will be brighter this year for these families as a result of your generous contributions and spirit! Together, we can truly make a difference in the lives of others.
January will find the Student Council preparing for a “Pajama Day” spirit day to be held on Wednesday, January 20th as well as our annual “Feed the Dream” food drive in conjunction with Dr. Martin King, Jr. Day, set for Monday, January 18th – Friday, January 22nd. Please watch for upcoming details right after break.
Inclement Weather
IT’S COLD– IS IT INDOOR OR OUTDOOR RECESS?
With the weather now reaching below freezing temperatures, we often get calls regarding how we determine if children go out or stay in for recess. Our policy is as follows:
If the temperature or the wind-chill is less than zero, we will have indoor recess.
School Closings/Delays
A reminder to parents that in case of inclement weather, announcements regarding Mukwonago School closings or delays will be made through our electronic notification system. This information will also be placed on the district website as soon as it is available.
The successful delivery of information is dependent upon accurate contact information for each student. Please make certain we have your most current home telephone number, cell phone and email address. If this information changes during the year, please make the necessary changes in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Thank you.
