Sorrick Family Focus
Week of November 18, 2019
Weekly Update
In the upcoming weeks, we will have our annual pajama drive at Sorrick School. If you wish to donate pajamas to families in need, please make sure that they are brand new with the tags. Pajamas in all sizes, from newborn to adult, will be accepted. We would appreciate pajamas for any season as well! For every pair of pajamas donated, Scholastic will provide a new book to a child affected by instability. For more information about Scholastic Book Clubs' Pajama Program, please visit the website: http://www.scholastic.com/pjdrive/. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
This Friday, November 22nd, our first grade students will enjoy a delicious feast hosted by the Sorrick PTA! Students will be given a chicken drumstick, potato wedges, a roll, and a chocolate chip cookie. Bottled water will also be provided. If you do not want your child to participate in this feast, please contact your child’s teacher by November 20th. Please note that your child will still their regularly-scheduled lunch time. Here is the flyer for the event.
The lost and found bin is starting to overflow with coats, hats, gloves and other personal items. If you have noticed that your child's personal items have gone missing, we may have these items here at school. During Parent-Teacher Conferences next week, we will lay out these items on tables. Please take a moment to stop by these tables and see if any of your child's belongings are there. As the weather continues to get colder, we want to make sure our students have everything they need to stay bundled up and warm!

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Please note that parents of kindergarten and first grade students with two teachers (an ELA teacher and a Math teacher) will only need to sign up for a conference with the ELA teacher. Math teachers will join in these conferences at the selected date and time.
If your child sees a specialist (Speech & Language Pathologist, Social Worker, Reading Specialist, etc.) you will also have the opportunity to sign up for a conference time to meet with these staff members. If you have any questions about parent-teacher conferences, please contact your child's teacher or the Sorrick office at 708-233-8200.
5Essentials Survey
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides an opportunity for parents, students, and staff to share specific information about their school. The survey information is part of the school report card. In NPD117, we use this information in our continuous improvement process.
If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. The parent survey is available in both English and Spanish, and only takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. This survey will be available until February 14, 2020.
To take this short survey:
- Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
- Type and select “Cook” as "County."
- Type your child’s school name into the "School" field and select your school.
Thank you in advance for your input!
